Sports car for occasional driving

Currently use my raptor as DD. I will still need it to haul kids around, haul wood, restaurant supplies, ski trips and camping trips.

Looking at getting a sports car to take out when I’m just tryin to go for a drive by myself, heading to the lake no passengers etc..

I really don’t know chit about a lot of cars and just kind of going off what I think is fun / cool. My biggest problem is I very much like having very high end things and am less satisfied when I know there is a better version of somthing out there. That being said I’m also realistic.

First car I’m thinking of would be a 911 turbo s in python green. How hard would it be to track down a specific color / model for this? I more then likely don’t need turbo s, but it just seems like I might as well go all out if I’m already looking at a 911.

At a cheaper price point but maybe a bit too flashy I was thinking of trying to get my hands on a black c8 z06 when they come out.

I’ve always liked old corvettes 68-71. This whole rabbit hole started when I started looking for old 68-69 black stingrays. Obviously much cheaper and would still make me happy getting an old classic that’s unique in its own way.

Or have had passing thoughts on just saving cash and getting somthing nice and fun but not high end like a new Supra.


Wouldn’t need to buy anything for months yet, no rush, just seeing how realistic maybe getting the first two would be say if I had 250k ready to drop on the Porsche if I could get exactly what I wanted. Don’t really want to drop by the dealer until I have more of an idea because I’m impulsive as fuk.

If you want a C8 Z06 be prepared to wait over a year at least.

The waitlist for these cars is already really long so you won’t be able to get your hands on it until months after it launches.

Yeah that’s fine I expect somthing like that, would have to go get my name on a list soonish I expect so I might want to talk to the Porsche guys first if there’s a way to get specific car I want instead of what they have available.

I am sure SDbrah will agree too a C7 widebody would do well too IMO.

Other good option IMO is Audi R8
can get 2014-2015 cars with 5,000-20,000 miles V10 spyder for a little more than $100k

and never look back. the turbo s is hilariously expensive for the minimal change in performance, otherwise go used GT3/GT3 RS for less money

I've always had a side car to tear up the streets since I was 21. Great way to live.

Doesn't the C7 have cooling issues though?

Don't waste your time with a crappy vette. Go the Turbo S. Better in every conceivable way except exhaust note. Would demolish any vette, and be a better daily drive at the same time. And won't be ****ty GM "quality".

If my girlfriend and I ever get married we've pretty much decided that I'll have a truck, she'll have a SUV and we'll also have a sports-car or something 'fun' for us to take evening/night cruises in. (To go eat and to the gym mainly)



Have you heard of the Polaris Slingshot? I've heard they are really fun and are a bit different then driving a car. They make versions with a roof and without. Manual and auto. Etc.

used porches in rare specs are absurdly expensive in this market right now. I'd consider waiting out the current car crunch.

turbo s in a specific color is going to be balls to the wall expensive right now if you can even find one.

For a fun car though I'd get a 911 turbo and not look at anything else except maybe an R8 just for uniqueness.

Personally I'd consider a 911 in a variety of specs and be open to different colors if the price is right. a turbo S is going to be a tough find and likely overkill unless you have a track you are going to frequent.

if it's occasional use then pick something that is or might appreciate. Something that you can afford to maintain well. I had a 911 (many many years a go), it was my daily driver. For a fun car I would look at a 356. Austin Healey, MG's, Jensen, some Fiat's, Opel, Sunbeam, Triumph would all fit the bill. If you can find one with an older restoration that was done well you might be able to obtain it at a good price, have fun with the car for a few years, and then sell it for a small profit.

Even if you've got the coin for a six-figure car, OP, I'd just get something a chit ton cheaper like an MX5 RF and see how you like it. You can always sell it later to get something else.

The RF is the retractable hardtop version and of the newer ND chassis, is the only one with an exact 50/50 weight distribution.

No they aren't the fastest in a straight line, but they handle like a go-kart and are a ton of fun.

I had a chance to pick up a Viper bout 10 years back. I forget what year, maybe 1995, for 25k, the typical blue with the white stripes. Would be curious how much it would be worth today, quick search says 30-50k...not the best cars though to drive, so didn't buy it.

But buying a car for play, that will also appreciate is always a good move.

Disagree. Most upgraded suspensions are adjustable. New sports cars are easily adjusted with a turn of one knob.

Yea but when its in track mode, your car was made to be a daily driver. Its not a gutted track car.

Driving sports car as a DD makes more sense than driving a tuck or an SUV or even a sedan. Most people most of the time are driving by themselves and don't need the rear seat, cargo room or payload capacity. And yet they sacrifice all the handling and performance for it.

A small compact car like a Nissan Versa or Chevy Spark makes more sense as a DD for enthusiastic driving because you can push the car around on public roads.

You can't push a sport car on public roads so what's the point?
