Layoff Time - Outsourcing The Jobs Without The People

My client today announced that they are going to outsource all their IT jobs to another company minus the people. They are expecting people to stay on and do the knowledge transfer to the new person. As most of us are already contractors I find this rather amusing. We already dont get benefits and vacation and definitely wont get any severance.

Why would you stay on to do knowledge transfer so someone else can have easy time. Find another job and get out.

No severance, no benefits, the only loss they take by quitting ahead of time is not being able to collect unemployment so fukk that... if there's no goodwill from the company then it's no L on your resume to walk away and fukk any "knowledge transfer".
If they want to give me a severance that covers at least a few months salary, they can have the knowledge transfer.

Immediate walk out the door if someone told me that. No sense wasting time when you have jobs to find.

This is the new way for companies to **** their workers. They model everything as a contract and every person employed is a contractor so they don't have to give the benefits of employees. Always lol how managers will always emphasize "we're a family here" and will smile in your face then call you up the next day with zero warning and tell you you're fired. Fuk em.

If I was in this situation I would come in, spend all my time applying for jobs and wait for them to fire me so I can collect unemployment if I don't find another job.

You could do it to make some extra money and still look for extra jobs.

Or you could get a job managing the outsourced clients.

In either case that sounds rough would get new clients ready or somehow prepare to land on your feet.

My resume is already up to date, I am a long time contractor. I have already started to look. I control my destiny, not them.

My boss has said he is going to try to get an exception for myself and others but I doubt that will fly. They are probably going to tell him to suck it up and deal with the loss.

There will be people that will hold out to the end, that wont be me.

You'd have to meet him halfway and find a way to make yourself useful. The outsourcing may not work as well as they'd like. It's definitely a shot called from the top to cut down on costs.

You say that you control your own destiny, but we as working people must still sell our time to survive. When it comes down to it, it's all about the money.

Outsourcing to cheap overseas labor to save on costs is the most American thing.

In terms of ethics, the most successful businesses are the least ethical.

But if you refuse or leave prematurely then they may not give you a letter of recommendation or references for future jobs.

I've been remote working for a long time, even before the lockdowns.

A new thing these days are big companies that are completely virtual. I once interviewed for a bank that was all remote workers.

No real estate costs, office furniture and equipment, maintenance and utilities, etc.

Saves a ton on costs as all these things are supplied by the employees and their home offices.

Same with online retail, people shop online a lot these days so you don't need to pay for a brick and mortar store.

I would do what Ive done when I was young and I predicted a big chitting coming from upper management.

I wait until the worst possible moment to quit and then quit. Or do bare minimum/trolling until Im fired.

But I dont work in these types of jobs so it doesnt matter anymore.

So they had a meeting telling everyone that they want to do knowledge transfer to their replacement from India.

Considering we are already mostly contractors whats in it for me to train my replacement?

I get no severance, f^ck them.
