nothing less than an absolute masterpiece.

the untrained eye might assume that the artist was just randomly splashing on colors until the whole surface was covered and then made up the supposed meaning behind the artwork, but that would be a foolish assumption.

because cultured minds can absolutely tell that an incredible amount of thought and consideration was put into this painting, and only a genius could replicate or come close to this level of greatness in abstract art.

To call this “art” is just retarded. Looks like you just flung a bunch of paint randomly on a canvas. Congrats - a monkey could make “art” as well as you.

That's really it. High art in general is based upon the whims of the wealthiest people on the planet anyways. After the modern era it was kind of anything goes, especially after the Decadent movement.

Instead of royalty commissioning art that pushes the boundaries of realism and human skill, it was more about wealthy people and abstract concepts of modernity.

I like your painting because it really does look exactly like Pollock. I would also say that means you can branch off into your own style if you already have that kind of foundation. I think his work was major because it was completely original.

In order to avoiding making too many threads, I’m adding a question to this one. I’m trying to learn/work on a different style. I took two pictures of a section of the same painting One is the rough original painting that I made, the other is my first attempt at “adding details”. Adding details made it worse imo. Advice would be appreciated

What I like about the before is the broken brush strokes all over the place. Look at that figure in the center. There is something beautiful about the incomplete lines. In the after, you smoothed it out and it just looks like a blurry mess. And you did the same thing all over the picture. The before looks so cool because there's a raw, jagged feeling to it.

I don’t understand how this type of artwork is considered good. We are a long way from Rembrandt.

If you like it though OP, that’s what matters.

Yeah, I’m just doing my best. I’ve tried the “faithful replica” thing before. It’s never perfect, because my own style/feelings end up affecting it. Here is an old painting I did of Starry Night. It was a rough time in my (young) life, so the yellows were pronounced, and it wasn’t as balanced as the original.

I still followed the basic rules regarding what paint to use, and how to apply it.

I like the 'before' aswell. Its much more interpretative, where as the second one almost forces me to see things. And it's more scruffy.

Just my opinion m80, the closest I ever got to art was writing graphiti

Lol yeah, I’m going to have to work on those colors. And while you were joking, the comparison really is accurate. His work compared to mine is like comparing the Statue of Liberty and it’s original concept to a miniature figurine of it. They might look similar in a picture, but they are in totally difference universes in real life. I just enjoyed making that one, because it was fun to try a new method.

Jackson Pollock was funded and popularized by the CIA as a psyop against Russia during the cold war. His art is a meme. If the CIA had not spent the equivalent of millions of dollars promoting his work, no one would know who he is today.

https://theunexpectedcosmology.com/t...expressionism/

Second-wave feminism was also a psyop against Russia funded by the CIA.

You just ripped of Pollock.

The main thing that made him special is that he basically the concept he had. Just paint on canvas. He was the first to do it and after that there were a lot of copycats. I saw a lot of this type of Pollock rip off crap in art school and in ****ty galleries.

There is nothing interesting, new or worthwhile with what you did.

This doesn't improve your skills or your understanding in anything.

100% agreed. I think about this all the time (but in a different context). My dad started a business with foresight and ingenuity. He became successful. I wanted to follow his success, so I got the same education, and planned to run his business as he did. In my youth, I thought that would make me like him.

As I got older, I realized that it wasn’t what he did that made him who he is. It was his ingenuity. He would have done something completely different if he was my age in 2021. And that is what it means to be talented.

Anything that I make when I paint here is practice, and fun. I’m not delusional enough to believe it puts me anywhere close to the level of the original artists.

Edit-I can’t quote your post for some reason.

Here is a practical application to some stuff I read/learned. It’s a contemporary/mod accent wall. Not hard at all to do, but takes some basic understanding of steps, paint, etc.

The idea was to make it look like there are beams/architectural elements going across the wall. Things that you make on canvas are fun to translate into home designs

I made something new. I was looking into old papers to find the architect of the house I grew up in (borough hall and county clerk had zilch), and found an article from 1963. It appears that the people who built the house were very kind.

The owner was in his 40s when he was doing this stuff, and sold the property after a few years (this snippet is a local ad describing what went on in the home). I wanted to paint what I imagine it may have been like back then. The idea of a disabled kid going into water and finding some kind of normalcy. The patio has colorful river stones, and a lot of other details I wanted to include. The painting is about 90% done at this point. I didn't realize how much harder large canvases are to work with. As usual, the style is a mix of modern techniques. Anyway, here you go:

Spoiler!

Yeah, I know I’m an amateur, and not particularly gifted or anything, but I put a lot of work into this one ded srs.

Thanks brah, I appreciate the feedback. Hopefully I can clean it up a bit and add more dimensions to it. Thats crazy regarding your street. Organized crime related stuff? I haven’t been able to get ahold of that table yet btw, the guys repairing it are taking their sweet time. I’ll post it when it’s finally put together.

Not sure tbh, I never really looked into it any deeper. Digging up the past just muddys up the future.

Unless you're refinishing a beautiful old table like yours ofcourse. Good things take time, I'm keen to see it when its done.

I hear you. This was honestly the first large painting I’ve ever done. I made it for family, to be placed in my parents home. My career is totally unrelated to painting (corporate pharma), and I’m not sure if that will ever change. Point taken though, if it’s important to me, I probably shouldn’t be sharing it this way.
