What are your go-to websites to look for jobs?

Hello misc bretheren,

I am currently looking for jobs and am new to the industry side of things. I have heard of the "big three" (maybe, idk hehe) are Indeed, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn to look for jobs. I am looking for a job related to the field of data science. Is there any other websites you brahs would recommend? (ded fkn srs)

Yeah, LI and Indeed. Just throwing your app into the pool seldom works, however. Been trying for ages and nothing doing. I've been reaching out to people at companies I want to work at and setting up quick calls/email exchanges but nothing has worked out yet. I do feel this is a better/more proactive approach though. Basically whenever you want to invite someone, just write them a quick 200 character message using the "Add Note" feature. Best of luck.

Did you do a master's in Data Science? I've been considering that path myself. How was it and how deep was your prior coding/statistics background?

I've been trying to customize resumes to company's based on their job listings. I will probably step up my game and find people to contact. I think the thing I am finding difficult now is there isn't really any jobs in my area and most of the jobs that are willing to do remote work aren't entry level.


I have a Ph.D in math. No coding experience when I graduated three years ago, but I spent a good part of the past couple years learning Python and SQL. Most of the ML stuff comes pretty quickly for me, and now that I've gotten a lot of practice, the coding is pretty swift as well. I don't know your background, but if you have a STEM Masters+ degree, I think you would be more than capable of learning most of this stuff on your own.

I do have to look up the statistics terms all the time though since I did nothing with those in school hehe.

Thanks! I mainly use these websites to search for jobs. Most take you to the company's website. Very few have asked me to apply directly from LinkedIn/Indeed/Glassdoor. I will definitely go to the company's website if I do not get directed there.

You'll have better luck sending cold emails or going through references.

A lot of online job postings get filled this way.

It's not that the job websites don't work, but it's really easy to get lost in the shuffle.

It's better to make a real connection or go through an organization that has one.

Linkedin is the only place I use, plenty of recruiters hit me up but very few are offering options that are worth pursuing

Not sure how that would work for someone with no experience though, I guess you have to go after the recruiters
