Why are people still scared of COVID?

There’s a vaccine out that the experts are obsessed with getting people to take, that they claim totally protects you from COVID, and I know a lot of people are of the thought process that being skeptical of the vaccine makes you a “dumb antivaxxer”, so surely they trust it will protect them.

So why are people still wearing masks, why are people still acting like they’re afraid of going back out and doing things like normal anytime soon? If we have a working, widely distributed vaccine, what is the issue?

Personally I'm not scared of catching COVID at all. But in Australia when we have small outbreaks and they bring back short term mask regulations I wear one. Not to protect myself, but because I don't want to be the person who gives it to my grandfather or causes an outbreak in a nursing home causing deaths of others loved ones.

Call me retarded though.

Yeah, covid will never be completely eradicated so you are advocating for the perpetual use of masks indefinitely.

Because even though the cdc says it’s fine to resume normal activities now, people are idiots and think they’re experts after watching a 10 minute youtube video. There’s no scientific reason to not live 100% normally if you’re fully vaxxed

To be truthful I don't think it will be completely eradicated either.
I also will probably feel very different if years down the track I'm still wearing a mask.

But for now I'm happy and willing to take some precautions to slow the spread (even if only a little) while they get more time to study the long term health affects of COVID.

They still can spread but the odds have been astronomically reduced. Even the cdc says it’s completely fine to take off the mask if you had the shot.

Do you know more than the cdc? It’s no different than the anti maskers thinking they knew more last year

Live in Aus mate. I just follow the guidelines given to us by our health experts down here.
When we have small outbreaks and have mask mandates reinstated we all have to wear masks regardless of who's vaccinated and who's not. We've taken incredibly cautious/arguably over the top approaches since COVID first landed here though so that doesn't surprise me.

Sooo when you say mask you mean an N95 and not a bandana right? Because a lot of the "listen to science people" seem to ignore that the science says N95s are the only legitimate mask that can actually give you some protection.

If you don’t trust the government, experts , or the media, where the hell are you getting your information from that carries more credibility? Have you published a paper that refutes what the CDC recommends?
