When they made the Jumanji sequel, they committed one of the greatest tragedies a film can make.....they cast Awkwafina in a role. Because her dad is Chinese, she keeps getting cast in an attempt to appeal to China's market.




Meanwhile, I would have bought tickets to the Jumanji flicks if they just kept the storyline & characters similar to the parody, starring Lacey Lennon

TBH i dont really care what color the character is as long as the movie is good. The problem is when you pick actors based on their skin color or their genitals the movies tend to be ****. See ghostbusters female version for example.

I liked black panther because that actor was good and deserved the role not because of his skin color. I am all for minorities getting a shot but i think they overcorrected as usual. Its same way i feel with affirmative action i think its bs because i think black people are just as good and smart as other races and dont need a handicap to compete.

Internet fans are such low IQ sheep. Making adaptions as faithful as possible will just end up making horrible films, if it's a different medium. People, who rage about characters not looking exactly the same as their source material, just don't know much about movies.
Harrison Ford was way better looking, than the novel version of Blade Runner and the movie pretty damn good. Race-changing Velma or having them wear more normal clothing won't make much of a difference to Scooby Doo at all.

It only becomes problematic, when changes in race or looks, have to change said character's personality or background as well. An Indian Velma can still be the dorky smart member of the group. It's only problematic, when it doesn't fit the story anymore. A black Anne Boleyn is a blatant example. The black Ariel also seems suspect in what was originally a danish Fairy Tail, but it could be worked in somehow, by clever worldbuilding and adapting the entire culture of those Merpeople. A black James Bond would be difficult due to the guy's snobby upperclassness.

In general making something new out of the source material is not bad. Stanley Kubrick basically butchered Steven King's novel to make The Shining and what we got was so much greater than the original book.

It's a new adaption, not a cosplay. Their job is not to look the same as the source material, OP. That's just being stupid.
