Drake won 'Billboard Artist of the Decade' - Is He The Best Since Michael Jackson?

I think he's one of the greats. Absolutely dominated the decade, from beginning to the end. Seemed to get better and better as the years went on. So culturally relevant - a pop culture icon.

- 45 top ten chart positions
- Most streamed artist of all time
- 27 total Billboard award wins
Drake's dominance during the 2010s wins him top honors in the overall top artist category, which ranks the best-performing artists based on activity on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart and the Billboard 200 albums tally, as well as social media data and touring revenue from Billboard Boxscore, during the decade (see full methodology below).

After first appearing on Billboard charts in 2009, Drake banked nine Billboard 200 No. 1s in the 2010s, first leading with his debut 2010 studio LP, Thank Me Later, and most recently reigning with 2019's Care Package. He also scored six Hot 100 No. 1s in that span. Since his debut, he has obliterated numerous chart records, including the most Hot 100 top 10s (45, to-date) and overall entries (232).

He's no Luke Bryan but I can see the argument for Drake.

I can't name a single one of his songs.

I don't listen to Justin Bieber but I know he had that song Baby.

Still can't name a single Drake song.

Never impressed with artists that get everything handed on a plate. All of his albums were produced by 40 (Noah Shebib).

Whilst Quincy Jones produced MJ's big hits, Jacko was always involved in production. He was writing, coming up with rhythms on a drum machine etc.

Exactly, so many bands and artists in the 70s and 80s that had to slave away, playing in clubs, rising up through the ranks with hard work and most "artists" today are molded by the media companies to become stars, most of them are just a product of their marketing campaign, have very little actual musical talent/ability. That's why most music today sucks azz.

He will go down as the artist with the most hit songs. The people itt that claim to not know any of his songs are either lying or way detached from anything mainstream

Trash music made for retards. Music technology right now is so incredible, and they choose this formulaic, crybaby b!tch as "artist of the decade?" In what genre? Emo RnB?

Last time I heard a drake song was 2011

Artist of the decade means nothing when 2012-2021 has come out with nothing new or memorable

Zoomers have zero creative talent because they solely rely on prerecorded everything

In 2021 the mainstream is detached from most people. In times of the internet, there is no mainstream.

We're in the digital media age. Everything is readily available, everyone has access to the internet. MJ was much more talented, and worth more than drake.

cultural icon sure,

but the definition of an industry guy

does not write his own raps, I'm not sure if he ever did

is carried by the best producers/beat makers money can buy

that's music though for ya. most of the mainstream stuff is designed to pull young fans in and make as much money as possible

all about image/culture

the label can handle any of the creative chit

I’ll be contrarian here yes I think Drake is artist of the decade he is the biggest thing since MJ for sure. Hard to consistently come out with fire for 10 years but he has. Obviously he has help, he doesn’t produce everything etc...

Life is Good got over 1 billion views in the span of like 8 months

He’s iconic even if you dislike his music he has been huge and highly influential. Also no mumble

Like I said I can name Biebersongssong. I can name a couple Katy Perry songs and a couple Lady Gaga songs. Hell there was that one Cardi B song about Moist Anus Vaginas that got a lot of press. There has been an influx of garbage-tier musicians in the music business where the music comes secondary after the marketing, promotions, and merchandise. These musicians are mostly famous for being famous and they are not doing anything noteworthy, really. I remember for the first few years Nicki Minaj was around a lot of people (including people on TV) were saying they had no idea whotf she was. The music businesses pushes artists by marketing them as "the next thing" when really they have no thing.

if anything I would say you being in a deluge of popular culture has you thinking popular music is more popular than it really is. The fact is a majority of people who listen to that garbage do so because they need something to listen to when they are on the bus, in their car, or in the gym.

I am sure Drake has some merit, to some degree, somewhere. But to call him artist of the decade is so much more of an exaggeration than my take..."Trash music made for retards" is WAY closer to the truth than "ARTIST OF THE DECADE." Whoever agrees with that must only hear music in lobbies and elevators or something. Drake is such middling nonsense.
