Was gonna make a thread on this also
People's priorities have shifted after seeing what has happened over the pandemic. People hopped off that hamster wheel and started to enjoy life
Retail workers are quitting at record rates for higher-paying work: ‘My life isn’t worth a dead-end job’ - Some 649,000 employees gave notice in April, the sector’s largest one-month exodus in over 20 years, a reflection of pandemic-era strains and a strengthening job market

Just lol at the media generated marxist psy-op pushing the post-capitalist stance that says automation will benefit the majority. Really no wonder that purists believe America hasn't been a true democracy for many decades now.
Karl Marx, in a section of his Grundrisse that came to be known as the "Fragment on Machines",[22][23] argued that the transition to a post-capitalist society combined with advances in automation would allow for significant reductions in labor needed to produce necessary goods, eventually reaching a point where all people would have significant amounts of leisure time to pursue science, the arts, and creative activities; a state some commentators later labeled as "post-scarcity".[24] Marx argued that capitalism—the dynamic of economic growth based on capital accumulation—depends on exploiting the surplus labor of workers, but a post-capitalist society would allow for:
The free development of individualities, and hence not the reduction of necessary labour time so as to posit surplus labour, but rather the general reduction of the necessary labour of society to a minimum, which then corresponds to the artistic, scientific etc. development of the individuals in the time set free, and with the means created, for all of them.[25]
Marx's concept of a post-capitalist communist society involves the free distribution of goods made possible by the abundance provided by automation.[26] The fully developed communist economic system is postulated to develop from a preceding socialist system. Marx held the view that socialism—a system based on social ownership of the means of production—would enable progress toward the development of fully developed communism by further advancing productive technology. Under socialism, with its increasing levels of automation, an increasing proportion of goods would be distributed freely.[27]
Marx did not believe in the elimination of most physical labor through technological advancements alone in a capitalist society, because he believed capitalism contained within it certain tendencies which countered increasing automation and prevented it from developing beyond a limited point, so that manual industrial labor could not be eliminated until the overthrow of capitalism.[28] Some commentators on Marx have argued that at the time he wrote the Grundrisse, he thought that the collapse of capitalism due to advancing automation was inevitable despite these counter-tendencies, but that by the time of his major work Capital: Critique of Political Economy he had abandoned this view, and came to believe that capitalism could continually renew itself unless overthrown.[29][30][31]

Saw on the local news that airlines, airports, and hotels are in serious need of workers so I could see many in lower paid jobs like retail or fast food looking to move into some of those roles.

one of two outcomes:
-use this as an excuse to import more immigrants/cheap labor
-create another economic disaster to get people to re-evaluate their priorities & be thankful they sit in a cubicle 50+ hours a week

Never started.
I mostly like what I'm doing and I like all but a few of the people I work with. It just doesn't pay much.
I could move up to supervisor and then assistant manager and maybe go from $20K a year to $35K or $40K working a minimum 15 hours overtime a week.
Still not much, and I have a kid to raise too.

I can't stand that either.
I think what they're insinuating is that teens are naive enough and it's okay to exploit then.

Loooool even if people actually executed on this, wtf are they going to do? Are bills just magically going to be paid without working? I don't like work either, but I'm also not stupid enough to think I don't need a job to survive.

Its obvious you were spoiled by your parents and never had to work a part time job because you wanted the responsibility and needed money.
I valued working those crappy jobs because they pushed me

More that people want to change to a different employer, different field of employment, or try being self-employed.

If you are passed your teens you should in all reality have some skills and experience to keep you from flipping burgers again.

Similarly, what are these people going to retrain to? I work in finance, aka a field where people are supposed to be mathematically/computer literate. Yet most people I work with struggle with anything beyond a basic lookup function in Excel. Do they really think they can retrain themselves for a career in tech magically or that it'll be easy/stress-free to reboot their career? JFL
