From what I hear they might have been storing heavy materials on the roof that shouldn't have been there, and salt spray getting into the rebar over time could have been an issue too. Betting a lot of associations are suddenly going to be less hesitant to pay for inspections now.

Built in the 80's, looking at the "Before" pictures it looks like any typical condominium/apartment complex I'd find in Florida. It's a shame this happened, but it's something to remind everyone, too much faith and certainty in things that aren't so certain. I would've trusted my life with residing in that building, srs, unless I heard strange noises or saw it move around or something.

The worst thing about this is it sounds like it happened during the dusk hours (3 AM - 4 AM), so the vast majority of people would've been in deep sleep, unable to identify any signs to take some quick actions to save themselves (if any would've been possible).

Life is precious, and statistically it is long lasting, but it's also so vulnerable.
