I’d have to stay somewhere like this before kinging it the way to go. It’s so humid where I live I highly doubt it’d keep me cool. I keep my AC around 65 fwiw. I’m didn’t read it all but there’s prob a huge reason they quit doing this for so long. I just find it hard to believe it’d be good enough to hang cooling wise in this area and others. Living somewhere that the humidity wasn’t so suffocating and it was just a dry heat might work great tho. Very interesting though, haven’t read about these. Just doubt they’d be able to compete with southern summers.

Well, one thing places like the middle east have going for them in terms of the heat is that it's typically dry heat, rather than wet heat. Try turning a regular fan on outside in wet, muggy ~100'F weather and see how well it works for cooling you down. It's like turning a hair dryer on yourself in an attempt to cool off.
You can design a building however you want, there's no way you're gonna keep an interior place a comfortable temp "naturally" in extreme heat with high humidity. The real issues people in modern homes tend to neglect the most are proper insulation and shade. This month+ long heat wave/drought we've had in my area has made me realize I seriously should put up a couple more trees to put more shade on my lawn and house. It's silly how much cooler it gets just by being in the shade vs directly under the sunlight. Same thing applies to keeping a house/structure cool.

Houses in Britain are ill-equipped for sustained temperatures above 23 celsius, and the majority of British houses are moldy due to wet climate.
Venice is literally an open sewer. Also leaning tower of Pisa.
Mexico City is built on a former swamp and the ground is soft. Old cathedrals are sinking into the ground because of weight.
French like to build nice houses, and then allow them become dilapidated. brb can't be bothered to fix peeling paint or plaster.
Germans think they are masters of nature and love to build basements below local stream beds. Countless German buildings with wet cellars.
Australians used to build Victorian houses on stilts due to natural seasonal flooding. Then they built dykes and levees, and thought that they could cheat nature forever, and started building houses on the ground again, leading to repeated flooding.
Chinese building anything near the three-gorges dam which can break at any moment. Chinese also using garbage materials and buildings collapsing regularly.

There are thousands of mechanical engineers around the globe and organizations dedicated to energy saving hvac design. You come in here with the idea that natural ventilation is this new concept we should all implement. If it was so good it would be in every commercial building out there (which it sort of is in the form of air side economizers). But the truth is, Americans aren't comfortable at 80+ deg inddor air temps so unless you change their mind, mechanical cooling will always be required

When I drew up my floor plans, I made sure to take the position of the home in relation to the suns patterns to strategically utilize the sun light in a manner that benefits my home the most.
Brb east facing windows in master bedroom and kitchen to get the sun rise,
Brb living room windows facing south and west to get sun light through out the day as well as capture the sun set for that hnnng view

Ever use a swamp cooler? They are absolutely chit in comparison to modern mechanical cooling. They are still 100 times better than a windcatcher.
At the end of the day those people are suited to 90 degree ******t temps and no their wind catchers will not drastically lower the temps. Brb still 80+ degrees
