I'm old as fuk. My parents were hippies and we traveled the country in custom vans going to "van ins" in the 70s.

Seriously thinking about saying fuk everyone after 26 years on the job and getting a van and traveling the country. Recently divorced and just sold my house.

back in the day you had to go to skate shops or order them from transworld or thrasher magazine.

id actually love to find an old school mid /late 80s pair of high top suede vans. they didnt have a line through them just an off the wall patch on the side like the vision street wear suede shooes had the vision patch. only the vision patch was leather/plastic. the vans patch was cloth of some kind.

but now you can get them almost anywhere.

had a couple pair of vics once. they lasted longer.

anyone who has ever skateboarded will probably agree. some of the best most fun happy time of my life were when we would get up at 6 am and just skate all day. i was only 12 13 at the time. but it was great times. great memories. before the world came crashing in on me.

haha. i just edited . misread the topic. i thought you meant vans shoes lol

Isn't your house like a really big van? I heard that after Nicaragua went south, you hopped in your house and drove into the sunset.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Lol this old ******* is so behind in current events

I don’t even own those trailers no more

Was fun while it lasted but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity get rid of them for 5x the price I bought them for.

But hey you can still keep clowning me about owning a skatepark.

It for sure fits the narrative that a fat geriatric old boomer like you is frothing at the mouth cause sk8er boy gets to have his cake and eat it too

It would be cheaper to travel internationally. Depending on where you go, significantly safer too.

Lots of the #vanlife stuff is pure cope. It is a cheap way to live that's attractive to people on fixed incomes, such as retirees. You're not going to be meeting people doing interesting things.

It can also be a cheap way to travel, but a 4x4 SUV can be a better choice. With 4x4 you can get to remote campgrounds that will always be empty during the week. Having the cab and bed together makes it more livable than a truck with a camper shell.

For what you'll have to spend to be able to chit in a hole in the woods you could rent a studio/1br in a surprisingly large number of city centers.

These are legitimately terrible. They're more about checking off buyer's wishlists than providing a good vehicle.

They're too large and heavy. There will be forest service roads, trails, switchback, abandoned camp sites, and other stuff where the vehicle will not fit. All the weight from the useless offroading/overlanding makes it worse.

Neither will fit in a parking garage and could have problems with a standard parking spot. That means going into an urban area will be difficult.

The only time fancy water, cooking, and electrical systems makes sense is when you have hookups. Campgrounds with hookups don't require 4x4 to get there. They are also usually crowded and loud.

If you use the 4x4 to get away from people, nature becomes your toilet. No one chits in their RV toilets because you'll never escape the smell. The dumps are also going to be inconvenient. A composting toilet or a cassette toilet are better.

As long as you choose good weather, cooking outside is more enjoyable and has less cleanup. Spills, oil splatter, and smells aren't an issue. A butane camp stove is like $25 and portable.

Do you have Alzheimer's? Are you actually a septuagenarian? I keep telling you, we're the same age. If you're so good at all this, then tell us about Nicaragua?
