How come so many people get into sometimes hundreds of thousand of dollars of debt for void and useless degress that will only lead them to make french fries in fast food restaurants ?
But "ma degree" "I'm college educated".
I got into 20k € of debt for my business school but I started paying it while I was still studying and ended having 0 debt by the time I graduated : I was only 21 but obviously more mature than most people my age.
I originally studied Litterature and history in highschool and I loved it but even at age 17 I was smart enough to know that this kind of studies would lead nowhere.
I shifted to finance and now make a about 6 figures in Consulting.
Moral of the story : if you're dumb and have poor planning in your teens and early adulthood, chances are that will still be the case till the end of your life.

A good friend of mine moved in the US and now she's getting scammed by the Wharton School in Pennsylvania for a useless post-graduate degree.

The student loan and university system in the US can be fixed simply in two steps
- Get the goverment out of the business of loaning money
- Remove the guarantee on student loan debt
Universities are creating all of these useless degrees and jacking prices through the roof because the supply of money is endless and there's zero risk

1. Student loans should only be available for STEM degrees. If you want a BS field of study you should have to pay cash.
2. College is FAR too easy. If you can't make 85-90% or higher it should be a fail. I'm sorry but 70% is not good enough.
3. We need to stop encouraging 'everyone' to go to college and just focus on fixing our 1-12th grade education. College should be for the wealthy and the best and brightest.
All in all. We have too many dumb people that can't afford to go, going get a 4 year degree. Devaluing the 4 year degree and creating a massive debt problem.

I went to community college full time and worked 50 hours a week and paid everything right out of pocket. Actually got some pretty significant tax returns from it.
Can’t say I’m in debt because I made a good life decision.
Nothing scam about student loans. It’s the idiots that think it’s free money that scam themselves.

Most people shouldn't go to college anyway. Bachelors degrees are essentially the intro course to the real learning in masters/phD that actually challenge one's intellectual capacity and ability to apply rote learning to produce real world results in the form of peer reviewed studies. Very few people understand this and wonder why they can't find entry level jobs without extra schooling after undergrad

The funnest part is it’s private corps reaping the benefits. You could at least make it a government loan so the interest goes back to the people. Lol, at Americans literally bankrupting their younger generations for portfolios. What a united country.

They should separate elite and nonelite with almost different degrees. College from Ivy League or similar for geniuses and like vocational training for people who might become techs.
I would support a system looking more like Japan, where people end up segregated at each step into a place more appropriate for them.
