Met an 83 year old man at work today and lost all faith in humanity

told me he lost his wife and one of his sons to cancer few years back and lost all retirement funds due to that and currently lives just on social security. Said his other son, who's a multi millionaire, rents a trailer to him for $500/month that's in the back of his son's property. Basically lives in poverty without any heating/ac all year long. He has a background in plumbing/electric work and said his son has him fix all kinds of stuff in the houses he's renting out, without any pay because "they're family". Said the only time he's allowed in his son's house is for christmas and thanksgiving. Now he's worried about ending up in the street because the son is selling everything and moving across the country. how can somebody be so ****ing evil to their own elderly parents?

My grandma knew this one gentleman for 20 years (he died few years ago) and since my grandpa and her husband died when I was like 3 years old she connected with him really well but they didnt live together but we used to have you know these christmas dinners,celebrate new years etc. So he was practically family and he was a really good guy so he was kinda my grandparent in a way. He had two children whom he paid education abroad, bought them each apartments etc and he got in some financial problems and had to sell his big house and move to a small apartment. He suffered later from dementia and his health detoriated and his own children didnt bother visiting him in his apartment and later elderly home. They did come to his funeral surprisingly.


I mean people are scum.

So he spends all his savings on the other son.
Resents his surviving son because he does a few small home repairs for him.

Sounds like he was a POS to this son in the past and should be lucky now he at least lets him rent a place cheap instead of letting him fend for hismself.

Probably he kick his son out of the house at age of 18 or demanded a rent if he was about to stay. So later in life his son served him cold.

Similar thing happened to me. When I was teen my parents demanded to fix their and their friend's computers for free, because "we are family and they are family friends".
