Millennials: The Next Hero Generation?

Watched a vid re:The Fourth Turning which outlined the book and how it applies to the present.

The book claims that history repeats on an 80 year cycle with each 20 year block labeled a Turning.



Here is how the current 80 year block is outlined:



And here are the roles of the four generations:



I can see Gen X as the Nomads and Gen Z as Artists.

But do you think that the Millennials are up for being Heroes?

Heros as in save the financial crisis, political divide, covid and all that? 100% DOUBT. Srs. 99% positive the internet has extended or ruined that 20 year theory. Our generation from 90s and on are wannabe artists with social media. So that leaves the 80s babys and even we are still influenced by social media a little bit.

I'm just going to go on a random limb and say Gen-X and whoever comes after Gen-Z are our heros.

Nah, our time is getting closer to being over. We are not going to be a "hero" generation like our grandfathers in WWII. No way the military would draft us being in our late 20s and 30s.... Unless something happens in the next year or so we are too old. Yeah its crisis, but its more of a social one, not anything that will be glorified as being a hero like a World War.

Would almost argue that would be Gen X fighting in Afghanistan/Iraq of the 2000s

I've read this theory before. Recently. Millennials are equivalent to the flappers of the 1920s aka the last recent *worst* generation. Late zoomers and kids born today are apart of the next greatest generation.

Millennials won’t be hero’s. I honestly don’t think anyone that grows up with technology could be.

America in a whole is long overdue for a reckoning from the inside.

I honestly think that if we have a major economic disaster in the next few years only Gen X will be able to survive most of it.

Boomers are too old and too dependent on the system

Gen X is the majority of the workforce

Most millennials are woke tards

Gen Z is just beginning and really doesn’t have anything of value.

In 10-20 years when millennials are in charge it’s going to be gross.

I'd reckon this dude is just making up his own pet concepts with no real basis in reality.

Just a mish-mash of a bunch of random popular events and figures.

History is definitely cyclical, but this does not seem like it's based on anything real. It reminds me a lot of timecube.

-students gifted with higher intelligence are more likely to become leaders and should be challenged with more rigorous work + well educated in ethics and history
- traditional American communities still exist and function outside of the mega cities

That bold part is in line with the advice in your linked interview; that we need our future leaders to have a good education on ethics and history/traditional American values.

I’ve noticed this trend for a while. Gen X seems to be alright with millennials and boomers somehow. I really do admire that. Most Gen X’ers I’ve known personally were pretty cool.

I don't hate Millennials, but as a group I find them kind of hard to relate to.

I've read that Gen X was "the least parented generation" and that fits so far as I can tell. Growing up I don't recall children being the main focus of daily life. We weren't catered to.

- at mealtime there was one meal on offer and if you didn't like it that was too damn bad
- adults watched what they wanted on TV and listened to what they wanted on the radio; you could like it or lump it...kids got Sesame Street and Saturday morning cartoons
- if your parents were annoyed with you they would tell you to get out; as in go outside kid and entertain yourself
- if you lost at sports you just lost; no participation trophy
- walking to and from school was normal, but you might get a ride if the weather was bad
- by age 11 or 12 you were considered old enough to babysit/take care of younger children
- at 16 you were learning to drive and getting a job

A lot of kids parents got divorced and/or mom went to work and kids were expected to fend for themselves [latchkey kids].

Millennials as a group seem softer and less resilient.

I don't know if we [Gen X] are all that, but I do think we may have a distinct advantage in that we existed pre-widespread internet and cellphones. I was resistant to getting a cell phone, and may never have gotten a smart phone if it wasn't for maps and coupons/discounts. I don't give my phone that much attention. Don't check my vm hardly ever, might read a text because there is a notification on the screen when I do pick it up, and don't pay much attention to whether it is charged or not.

I really like the access to information available via the internet. But since using the internet more I've been reading books and magazines much much less.

Cliffs: We at least used to know how to store and retrieve useful information from our own minds.

It does seem kind of convenient that the timing and roles would work out so neatly. Looking for patterns is kind of our thing as humans.

I don't think that they are trending conservative because of millennials. Seems more likely to me that it was the Great Recession that put a dent in them, possibly for the better.

That’s what they were saying and predicting for a while, the last official data I saw showed Zoomers to be slightly more liberal than Millennials. Both in terms of voting and individual issues. I think that’s largely because there are a lot of Hispanic and Asian Zoomers in comparison to Millennials, and they vote overwhelmingly Left. If we were talking white Zoomers vs white Millennials then perhaps. But that was a very misleading claim that was being made years ago, that the next generation was going to be the most conservative since the Silent Gen, they are in fact the most liberal according to everything I have seen.

That’s funny you mention John Travolta, there is a homeless black crackhead that lives towards the nearest city to me, he’s probably in his 60s. He saw me one time and said “look at this guy all jacked with his hair slicked back, it’s John Travolta”. This is when I was slicking my hair back before it was long. The guy talks to himself and isn’t all there but I saw him like a year later and he saw me, he stopped pointed at me and said “I know you, it’s John Travolta”. He remembered me, I thought that was great, because he’s registering Mediterranean features plus colored eyes and associating me with a guy that he probably watched on TV when he was much younger.
