China is a mixed bag. If you take your savings from the US and move there, you could live really well, but there are certain things you just don't have the same access to. The most interesting part come down to overall planning. In western western countries cities grow to accommodate real estate financial interests in the first place instead of quality of life for the citizens. The more third world a country becomes the more obvious the gap is, like in Latin America for example where you can have luxury apartments next to a poor skum with no running water, just like it happens in India too for example.

I'm not well versed on the subject of urban city planning in China but from what I've seen it seems that the government has more control and it isn't left up to the interests of private real estate developers like in much of the rest of the world
