Education is definitely valuable, and this fact has been exploited.

Not everyone needs to go to a university, but it's pushed on everyone as the ideal path.

This has made some people very rich, and has put many others into deep debt without much increase in job prospects.

If you do pursue a higher education, I would be very careful about what you choose to study and how you finance it. A lot of the fresh meat is simply pushed into the system and decides a field of study as a secondary decision. That's what keeps the money flowing.

I've been considering pursuing a master's. Many people in my field have gotten into these programs on work experience alone. Personally, I think it may not be worth the cost. Especially if I can succeed in my own business pursuits. It would unlock employment opportunities at the top companies in my field, but that may not be something that I really need.

I would decide on your goals first and foremost. If a formal education provides a means of attaining those goals, then go for it. If you have no future plans to apply your education, then I would reconsider it. Have a plan in place for the future and follow it. I have friends with bachelor's who are working worse jobs or are unemployed, but maybe their degrees have some intangible worth.

In either case, they paid a pretty penny just for those degrees, and some of them are still in debt decades later.

The late 20s guy did find him a college age girl of like 20 or whatever but she was pretty ugly.

I did not suggest that the only point of school is to make more money, and that you should go into a field you don't enjoy because it will justify the cost of the degree. One of the biggest stresses of life is finances. Even if you enjoy your job, you are going to have a terrible life if you struggle financially from University/College debt and a degree that is not marketable. You will have no work/life balance if you get out of school with debt and cannot find a decent job, or if your job does not pay you enough to cover the basics and service your debt (assuming you don't have savings now). Unlike other posters, I don't know anything about the field you mentioned. I am talking in general.

If you can help it, I think people are getting at that it is not a good idea to spend four years and lots of money on a degree that won't improve your situation in life. Otherwise, going back to school is a great idea if you can swing it. At 30 years old, you're not too old to go back to school.

Depend on what your going for. Lets assume college is going to cost you 30-40k if you can do it at a cheap school. At 30 years old do you want to either spend that amount of money, or go in debt for that amount of money. And most likely be out of a full time work-force for 4 years?

Its getting pretty common for lower income people to work until they are 72-75 years old. Assuming she graduates and starts a career at 60, spending the next 15 years career maxing before retirement might not be a bad thing.
