What's the secret of people that are always happy/positive?

It looks like nothing can affect their positive mood.

They're putting on a front. In my experience, people who feel happy all the time are actually depressed as fuk. 60% of the time we feel indifference, 20% of the time sadness nd 20% happiness....deal with it *******

Having a general understanding of psychology helps. If you take an honest account of what upsets you and why, you can weigh it's importance and decide if it's worth worrying about. If you decide it's not worth worrying about, then you have fewer reasons to be unhappy.

This is if you don't want to go the drug route.

Well, I don't think anyone can be happy ALL the time. The ways I try to stay positive & happy are:

I don't watch the news. It's depressing AF.
I appreciate the little things in life.
I try to read or watch stuff that is upbeat and makes me laugh. There are studies that show smiling, even if it's forced, makes you feel better and happier. That whole fake it til you make it thing.

Sometimes they don't care about themselves, like their health, people taking advantage etc. or like the earlier poster said, they are hiding depression. That's really bad because nobody will help them because they don't look like they need help.

Sometimes it's just personality they are born with. Some people can endure a lot and they always pick themselves up whereas others collapse when a feather hits them.

Nobody is "always" happy.

I'd like to think I'm a pretty positive person. I don't dwell on things, don't make small things a big issue, don't want control over anything and generally let people be. I think on things for a few minutes, then let them go. Knowing full well that I have very little control over things that happen.

Concept of Dukkah (from Buddhism) states that the more attached you are to things/people/conditions/environments - the more you suffer. Suffering is caused by wanting things a certain way. You gotta let go to be at peace. The more you attach yourself, the more you're inviting pain.

Thus unlamented let me die;

this is true about intelligent people who are happy.

however there is definitely a subset of 'happy' people who are blissfully ignorant about how trapped they are in life. or maybe their temperament is such that they truly don't mind (the average miscer seems to have a much greater problem with this than the average person)

That's very good advice. Made me think that I don't get attached to things or conditions but I do get overly attached to people unfortunately.

I think it's kind of genetic and dependent on how many happy chemicals your brain wants to shoot. Women are socialized towards putting out a happy and outgoing front though.

Yea, for us women, that one is the hardest because of our nurturing tendencies. But it can be resolved with lots of practice. For example, when my son was born, I already know, he won't be mine forever. Sooner or later, he will leave and that's okay.

Being happy all the time is impossible. But words I live by are,

“grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”

I think I’m a pretty happy person. Things I don’t do are drama, social media, keep company with Debby downers and pessimistic negative people.

Ignorance, lack of self awareness.

As I get older the phrase "ignorance is bliss" has become one of the most profound statements. Because it really is true.

Anytime I get restless, irritable, or discontent I do something for someone else and try to be useful or helpful. That usually solves my selfish self-wallowing and pity party and BAM life is good again.

You & the rest of women on the planet. You’re hard-wired to biologically. Men are more likely to get attached to a situation/place, social image, or title.

Most people are faking it. Women in particular are told by society to “smile” & they often feel pressured to fake being happy so they do. Orgasms aren’t the only time they’re pretending to feel good. Men also certainly fake being happy too, they just don’t have quite as much pressure to.

There are genetic components of happiness, but I think genuinely happy people mostly do what another poster said. They are able to remain connected with themselves & appreciate things without being attached to them. Loving and appreciating people/places/things without being attached to them lasting forever is godlike. It's easier said then done & impossible to do perfectly, but the happiest people do it best.
