Take two groups of gorillas and put them in an enclosure, and they clash, especially the most dominant ones (alphas).
Place two groups of 'human beings' in a room, and they clash, especially the two most dominant ones (alphas).
Life is basically a just struggle for power - we all wanna be that top ape.

idk. there seems to be picky choosy chit everywhere. look at jobs. dont they usually have some type of communal aspect?
i mean think about the grocery store. people farm, kill animals, do all that chit whatever it is and make it so most normal people (in america) can just go and get it.
so.. whoever created that industry is very rich BUT that doesn't really seem like "every man for himself" now does it?
how many other jobs are that way? affecting the community and or have a communal effect? if we were truly just innately selfish i think it would be every individual for himself and not caring about anybody else. so i dont think the communal aspect would be involved
but i then agree with you that people are very selfish, or believe they are... not sure which one is right/ the real truth
the easy answer is its both, but i guess that means humanity does have an innate inclination toward being social/ communal. kinda negates the completely selfish thing

Agriculture is more than an industry, it is the single most important invention in human history.
It transformed humanity from a sea of communal hunter/gatherer societies into competitive civilizations.
Statistically, the most generous people are those who have the least. Most people are inclined towards community.
Beans. Cleans. Gasoline.

I often think of this whenever I see someone walking down the street on their smartphone
like how absurd it is that we're all just a bunch of animals closely related to apes that acquired the knowledge and ingenuity to put devices in the hands of every person that connected them to a global network of communication and information. surrealism is often stranger than fiction in this regard
