As a kid I can remember visiting my father's bosses family. We lived in Florida at the time. The bosses kids would do just that. There was an area with a bunch of sharks and they would jump into the water above the sharks to scare them. Seemed nuts to me, but they found it great entertainment.

Its just an element of surprise. Note that they get out of the water before the shark figures out that the splash was edible.

Same deal here:



cliffs: African brahs watch lions kill a wildebeest, then walk up like they own the place. Lions panic and disperse. Afribrahs cut off a huge chunk and walk off with it. Meat gone before lions are able to regroup and defend their kill.
