Had to be about 4 feet I’m guessing. He was with two other smaller buddies. And I saw another lone one about an hour later.

Depending on your location it may be a northern water snake which looks very similar to the water moccasin but is not venomous. It’s hard to tell from the photo. See them all the time fishing here in VA.

They are tons by the ms river. When the ice melts up north it hits the river and it floods everywhere sending thousands of those bastards everywhere. One day I. The flood me and my buddy flipped his boat at night and you could hear them falling from trees. Tons of them. We had to wade back in pitch black in neck high water for miles. Had to go back the next morning and saw tons of them that size. Scariest moment ever.

It’s definitely a cottonmouth, this is in Texas. And I grew up in Florida I’ve seen hundreds of them but I don’t think I’ve seen one this big.

Nothing. I had a nice bass on probably about 3lbs on the hook but it broke me off in the brush.

I fished that same spot a few days ago and caught about 30 bluegills because I was looking for some to put in my aquarium. Only 4 of them were small enough lol it’s harder catching the baby fish than the big ones.

I’m used to seeing them but this was by far bigger than ones I’ve seen before so it was quite cool.

Here’s him with a buddy. Couldn’t get the other snake in the pic because he was swimming away. It’s awesome how they can be so many hues.

I have a vid of them swimming, not sure how to upload it

I saw a black snake bigger than that today, i pulled back an old siding in this abandon trail im tearing down and bam.. giant black shlong slithering in my face, unexpectedly

then I watched a video of people pulling up random tin in the woods and finding copperheads under every single one, they're almost impossible to see with there camouflage and i've been pulling a ton of tin up. I've probably crossed many and just haven't stepped on them

then saw this thread

Black snakes aren’t venomous though. We call them black racers in Florida, I used to catch them all the time as a kid and got bit many times lol. They do get longer than cottonmouths, but not as fat.

I'd be thinking it was time to find a new fishing spot. That's a big cotton mouth.
