How old were you when you felt like fully independent?

Some people started young like 15 and then there are others who are 30s living in ma and pas basement

How old were you boyos when you left the nest and started your own adventure, think of it as your flying stage.

owning vehicle (that’s if your not a public transportation-cel)

Having consistent and legal cash flow

Being accountable for your shelter

Afford to feed yourself

Save/invest money

i joined the military when i was 17 (turned 18 in boot camp), so i felt independent in that after i enlisted, i was making choices on my own.

i didnt feel fully independent until i was 22, after i had a mortgage and a truck.

30ish. My dad passed away and my mom retired half way across the country. My sister moves often cause her husband is career navy. I'm the only family of mine in this state.

33 in August so it's been a few years

27ish? But also still maybe not. Idk. That’s when my name was the primary on a lease for the first time. Before that I was pretty much taking care of everything other than shelter for myself. Even in recent times especially with all the covid chit I’ve had to fall back on my parents a time or two. But they seem to enjoy helping.

Age 30. It was a turning point of my life (im 31 this month hehe)

-moved out of parents home and into my mortgaged home
-lived by myself for the very first time
-got engaged to my HBB
-bought my first vehicle which wasnt powered by parents
-fiance moved in
-finally financially independent. Make enough in my job i dont worry about finances anymore. But now worry abt how to continue growing income year over year

I went into the military but that's not really independent. After that I lived at home, although I paid rent/utilities/ and all my own stuff. I did move out once or twice but moved back. I guess when I was 27 I decided to try out trucking. That changes you. You are out, by yourself, being sent places where you don't know, and know nobody, or nothing about that area, but you go and do what you need to do without worry.

It's not at a specific age. It happened after I had my own family and was raising my own kid, my daughter.

It made me realize how much my parents loved me.

I and my sister were the most important things in their lives.

That realization was it, the feel of independence.

Not until around 30 I guess. I bought my home (in which I still reside) at 29, but it was quite an adjustment as I had been living with the olds up until then. I had been working since 17, but had basically been supported by my parents.

It was about time. It gets harder the longer you leave it. If you afford to get your own place at 22/23, do it.

Moved into an apartment at 17 and still in high school. I was totally self supportive but it was rough and about a year before I really started to thrive. Nothing like being a kid and broke and alone to make you feel independent. Wouldn't trade that experience for anything though, lots of great things learned looking back.

Insane how millenials have turned the word adult into a verb (adulting)

Previous generations would say "You are an adult"

Meaning it's something to be.

Millenials have turned into adulting. Something to do.

I prefer adult. Something that you are not that something that you do.

Pretty much since I was 18. Parents have always offered stuff, even brought by groceries and stuff when not asked nor needed just so they felt they helped but I’ve been doing my own thing really since 17, 18 is just when I needed nothing from them. I’ve never been the type to ask for things from my parents past age 15 ish prob.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.

18 was when i moved out and lived away from family but with roommates. I did receive assistance from the family periodically though... groceries, random cash gifts/assistance, assistance with errands (dad would drive me around sometimes since I was carless).

It wasn't until 22 I graduated college, got a good paying job, and didn't have any financial ties/assistance from the family. This was also around the time that I moved out to live alone (no roommates).

maybe in 10 more years. I need a proper job so i can get my own place and then i'll finally feel independant. I think that as long as you're living with your parents you'll never get that feeling.

I was 18 when I went to another city to attend college. At this stage I was quite independent with regard to taking care of myself, but not financially. Since I finished university, I am completely financially independent.
I am saving up to buy an apartment and, although I have a driver's license, I haven't bought a car yet because I really don't like driving.
