There was one movie I always walked past for years when video stores existed....

For years. It was the first movie I ever remember seeing in a video store, ever, since I first set foot in one with my dad as very wee lad in the mid 90s.

That movie was Code of Silence with Chuck Norris:

I watched it for the first time, ever, last night with a streaming service. It was surprisingly good, decent plot and acting and it even had Frasier's dad in a starring role. Recommend.

That 30-odd year wait was worth it.

I just realized that this looks like a novel cover.

Makes you think how VHS tapes were like books with cover art and stories in them for you to enjoy.

Back in the day, novels were the main form of commercial entertainment. I think the comparison is similar.

The tagline is great

Now that you mention that, that was one of the little things in life that we'll never have back. Just picking up the video, looking at the cover and then flipping it over and reading the back to get a story.

I miss video stores. But I don't miss the bastards who returned the tapes without rewinding them.

I would not be surprised if traveling circuses and boxing matches or other showbiz events were advertised in the same way and still are.

Apparently the best selling VHS of all time was The Lion King.

The ones after that are not also animations are Titanic, Independence Day, and Jurassic Park.
