As a guy who ran through his fair share of young women, what I've learned is that the sluttiest girls came from homes with no dad. However the next tier came from overprotective and unreasonable dad's.

The girls who's dad's set reasonable boundaries, but allowed them to come of age naturally were never the ones getting tag teamed in the upstairs bedroom at the party.

I have no plans on enforcing chasity or shaming my daughters sexuality. Rather hoping to instil values and self worth so that she is empowered to make choices she can live with.


I.know you were speaking in jest, but just something I see men say , especially on the misc with the whole "daughters " meme, that I wholeheartedly disagree with.

One thing I've seemed to have noticed is that all my friends have daughters. In my close group of friends we have daughters are at least a 3:1 ratio. In fact, my son on the way is only the 2nd boy in the group.


Without researching birth rates, it certainly feels like more females are being born than males. Maybe evolutions way of bringing some balance back to the sexual marketplace?

Also single moms always seem to have sons, which is strange to me. Maybe just some sort of implicit bias from me.

My oldest (4 1/2) is drawn to horror movies. Must be genetic. But I'm 100% he'll get nightmares, so we stick to more gruesome stories for now. Any experience with horror and kids? I was watching the fuk out of them as a kid (older than 4 though), and they gave me plenty of nightmares.

We do Halloween pretty big here. Turn our front yard and wrap around porch in a pretty gruesome scene. Have made multiple neighborhood kids cry.

We just constantly remind our daughter it's "fake." Tell her how it's fun to pretend scary things are real but its just for fun.

Now everytime we tell her something isn't scary, she responds with "it's fake?" LOL.

2 things I've noticed about this generation of toddlers. There seems to be more girls than boys around and there are a ton more blonde kids than when I was young. When my son was in his 2 year old class at daycare there was only 2 kids in the whole class who weren't blonde.

Young kids have always been blonde I think. Hair gets darker over time. I am as dark featured as a white guy gets, but even I had blonde hair for first 5ish years of my life.

My oldest can watch horror movies with me. She likes to call out stuff in the movies that is stupid. The younger one usually ducks out, but she does that for most movies. She is always distracted.

Nah you're right. My hair was blonde as fuuuuukk up til I was like 3 or 4 years old, dark brown ever since.

As for daughters, I'm just eternally grateful our first is a boy. If we decide to go for #2 I'd be down to have a daughter since she would have an older brother to protect her and help teach her the way, but would have been scared chitless (more than I already was) if #1 had been a girl.

When he was young, maybe between 6 and 8, our oldest really wanted to be in to scary things. I'm not sure if he just thought scary things were cool or what, maybe he thought it would make him seem tough? Anyway especially around Halloween he always tried to seek that kind of thing out. But the truth was we could see that it really bothered him and gave him nightmares. We pretty much just tried to reduce his exposure to spooky things, without him knowing we were reducing his exposure. Curious George Halloween specials were a good limit for him.

I was an idiot before I joined. Partied too much, got a girl pregnant while in highschool lol

The second was my one dumb military marriage, obviously didn't work out.

I agree with tbis, though I would add that the “over-protective” dads you’re talking about didn’t really have great relationships with their daughters and the slootiness was in some ways used as a tool for revenge or seeking male approval. There definitely needs to be a middle ground and you can’t smother them, but they need to have boundaries. The other key thing, maybe the most important thing, is open communication. Trying to make sure they feel comfortable coming to you with issues and knowing you will help them through is crucial, and you can’t ever stop working on that aspect because kids change quickly. Another approach I’ve taken is to treat their mom the way I want a guy to treat them. If you have a son it’s your job to teach him how to treat a woman, and if you have a daughter it’s your job to teach her how a man is supposed to treat her. But that doesn’t mean just treating them like a princess all the time. If they’re making mistake call them out and try to keep them on the right track, but that also means being open if someone criticizes something you do as well. And yes, there will be arguments, but those are great opportunities to show them how responsible, respectful adults work through problems.

There have been studies linking hormone levels to the sex of the child. I’d always heard that it was the testosterone levels of the father that played a larger role, but at least according to the first study I found when looking for a reference for this post, it appears the hormones of the mother play a larger role.

In mammals, high parental testosterone levels present around the time of conception are thought to skew offspring sex ratio toward sons. The second to fourth digit ratio (digit ratio) is now widely accepted as a negative correlate of prenatal testosterone. Either way, testosterone isn’t just decreasing for men so it makes sense that if it’s decreasing for women as well it would or could result in more females being born.

I loved slasher films as a kid, but probably wasn’t watching them until I was 8 or 9. They never really bothered me because they were more violent than anything, though a little scary. Now my oldest daughter really enjoys horror movies, but I waited until she was around 10 to show her a horror film, and decided to start with Pumpkinhead since it’s about the most tame one I can think of. She was fine, so we moved on to Nightmare on Elm Street and when she did fine with that one I decided she could watch most horror films if she wanted. Sometimes we’ll find one that really scares her(hell…scares us), but that’s kind of the point with them, and it doesn’t traumatize her or anything. My other daughter can’t stand them. Sometimes she hates them so much that we can’t even have the movie playing when she walks through the living room or she’ll get scared. But the younger one absolutely loves war movies and has seen most of the greats. She can watch Hacksaw Ridge with no problems and The Patriot is one of her favorite movies(went through a phase where she watched at least part of it every day). Weirdly enough, the only part that bothers her is when the guy gets his leg blown off with a cannon. She’ll look away every time, but has no problem watching Mel Gibson drive a bayonet through his rival’s neck. Point being, you never really know what will bother them and what won’t, and each kid is different. I’d say 4 is too young for serious horror though because their brain isn’t ready to separate reality from imagination. That’s why they’re so good at playing pretend. I’d wait at least until he doesn’t play pretend games a lot, and found that around the age of 10 was a good time to start for us. I do recommend going slow though and just gauge their response along the way.

Ciara my 15 year old daughter, will be 16 on Christmas eve and my son, Isaiah just turned 11 on July 17th
I didn't miss not one doctors appt before they were born and I woke up every night after they were born for the first year. I let my wife at the time sleep while I handle the duties

My MIL came to stay with us last week so my son stayed at the house with her instead of going to daycare and this week has been rough getting him back in the routine. Yesterday when I dropped him off he started crying and hiding behind my legs which nearly killed me since heneverdoes stuff like that and is usually the loudest one in the room directing all the other kids what to do

He'll come around fast I bet. Alpha boys usually do.

Sleep routine disruptions are freaking brutal though. Little kids can get so screwed up sometimes with sleep that you think it will never be straightened out.
