those of you old enough to remember and or having done lan parties did you

run your benchmarks using quake 2?

i was running a celleron 233 overclocked with 128 megs of ram and a geforce 3500 VOODOO.


can remember the delight at the time but when you think of it compared to today. its mind boggeling.

i dont think there will be any more generation of gamers from this point on that is going to see that massive jump in technology and have that wow factor attached to it the way we did back then

GeForce is an NVIDIA GPU, 2D/3D. Not 3dfx Voodoo. The last dedicated 3D GPU 3dfx made was Voodoo2, which would not have been used alongside a GeForce, even the original GeForce 256 as the GLide API was dead and everything was OpenGL/Direct3D. The only "3500" back then was the Voodoo3 3500, which was not a GeForce.

i think we used quake 1 for benches

i had an oc'ed pentium pro. i wanna say it was running at 266, but it might have been 233

there was a very marginal advantage due to the larger cache over a pentium mmx at the same speed in games

no fraud holmes. this was 20 years ago. not sure why i had geforce in my mind with the voodoo 3500. there was also a voodoo 3000.. i stand corrected . memeory failed me there

in. playing CS1.6 on my opteron 170 computer, 6800 gt, 1 gig of ram. Good days. I had an acrylic case to go with it as well too. I have all the pieces buried away somewhere but I do miss going to my friends house to play CS/WC/SC all night long while eating pizza.

that comp actually i originally was using the onboard . i cant remember what happened but we did something and it phucked my comp up and we trouble shooted for 3 days and finally said phuck it. just went to compUSA and got the voodoo card. and that fixed the issues what ever it was. prefered unreal over Quake..


next video card after that was the ATI i cant remember that model either but i matched it up with my soyo dragon 2 motherboard .. along with the ram and the AMD CPU. was never a big intel fan. played many a day in a row playing unreal tournament 2003 on it.

that was my gaming comp. had two other cheap POS;s i turned into a LAB for studies

Not pointless at all. Benchmarks are how you determine optimal system configuration and intelligently shop upgrades.
