My mum is cowering at home full of hatred for the protestors thinking they're going to effect a mass spreading event and they're somehow the reason they will be still in lockdown.

smart people, using unstable animals that get easily startled and stomp heads under them. They could just hurt protesters and say the horse did it and then they can't arrest a horse. As a final note, sometimes here in the US, the police send in instigators to pose as protestors and cause trouble.

This is done in order to discredit the protestors and give the media a chance to demonize them.

This may or not be the case here, but it's something worth considering.
