Hit a raw squat PR last night - 525

edit: vid on post #15

Yeah nothing special, but it's very rare that I will take raw singles with a straight bar. My previous best was 505 and I only did 485 back in January. RPE was around 8.5-9 so I figured I had another 15-20 lbs in me, but I try to be smart since I squat alone.

Currently waiting to get an MRI on my forearm to see if I have a stress fracture, so I can't bench or deadlift right now. Also don't want to squat in gear as that would put too much strain on my wrist/forearm.

All squats went like this:
5x315
5x365
3x405
1x455
1x495
1x525

"nothing special" is a matter of perspective. Too zeus no, nothing special. To me and a lot of other people. And example of what you can achieve if you put in the effort. Good f'n job. This is more than most deadlift. Really makes me appreciate Ronnie saying "my only regret is I didn't do 3" when he front squatted 800 "whole ass pounds"

Thanks brah. Nothing special is relative, but I know guys that are raw squatting in the 700s. Just a step on the path to an 800 lb geared squat.

Get a safety squat bar and use it for 75% of all your squats.

I just recently tried these and like them but what are the benefits over just doing a high bar squat?

Already have one and use it for probably 90% of my squat work, lol. I hardly ever squat with straight bar anymore and my cranky shoulders appreciate it.

The SSB forces you to stay upright and keep a tight upper back. If you don't, you're getting folded over. Most people have a hard time keeping a high chest out of the hole, the SSB fixes that.

It also puts very little stress on your shoulders, so if you have shoulder issues (like most lifters) it allows you to train with less discomfort and keeps your joints healthier.

Thanks. Like I said it was an RPE of 8.5-9 which is all I really need for a raw squat. It's not going to benefit my overall training to go all out to failure here.
