Get a front and rear dashcam system that will monitor the car 24/7. You can get them cheap for like $150. They are motion activated and some can even be accessed remotely.

Going extreme, you could always have your door handles hooked up into your trucks security system and have them electrified so the 'joggers' will get hit with 10k volts. Sure, it's illegal but so is what they are doing...

OP if you aren't worried about retaliation, maybe stand by a window with your phone, and record them, and make sure they see you.

Alternatively kick them in the nuts the next time they case the place. Also I really like the idea a previous poster had about inserting acorns into their agneses.

I chit you not in my hood the neighborhood association recommend we leave our cars UNLOCKED with nothing in them. Their rationale was that way your window doesn't get smashed and they don't have anything to steal.

I'm glad I have my two Pitt bulls. This would never happen on my property. My house is gated, folks can't get in and if they do, my dogs will let me know. That's when I grab my gun and call 911 to get an ambulance on the way.

Yea, my thoughts are that they will eventually start busting windows. In the video you can see he tries the door, it's locked, then he shines a flashlight to see what's in there (assuming that if it's something good enough, he'd break in) and I'm not about that.

Property owners notice a thief casing their neighborhood and entering a house under construction. They waited for him. They tried to detain him on a citizen's arrest. He attacked one of them and got shot. See where I'm going with this? If not, I'll spell it out...

I was thinking a similar thing. It was common practise in more barbaric, darker times to hang corpses or parts of corpses outside your walls as warnings to those who may think you an easy target.

Sometimes using fear as a tool can work wonders.

Get used to it, this is the new normal. All these thugs getting free money are now going to find other ways to get free money.

The rate of catalytic converters being stolen here in CA is absurd, they are charging like 4k for them now because of the metals in them.. so basically if yours gets ripped your car is totaled.

Going to need to have armed guards at all times to have nice chit soon. Because there is no more middle class, theres only the have nots and the elites. And the have nots are growing and eating the have just a little bits.

If the law was in my favor (out in public), they wouldn't last a round through the 12-guage but in the real world... I had this happen on the street I'm on at 2am, my security cam notified me of movement on the street... someone high off his skull was trying car door handles going up and down the street... called the cops, they arrived within 5 mins (there was a car patrolling nearby), they tackled the guy down the street and arrested him, he had a record

The best solution is moving out of town.

Already have them, cameras too.

If you watch the whole video you can see as they approach the next house down the street, his motion lights come on and they don't even care.

My neighbor (the one who's house the video came from) just got home.....going to talk to him to see what time they were recorded to get an idea of when they're making their rounds.

OP a couple of suggestions:

-Get motion activated lights for your yard that are meant for Deers. Point them towards your vehicles. You can also get fancy ones you hook up a hose and they spray water at the Deer/Hoodlums
-People are desensitized to motion activated lights on home, but the ones in your yard are new, and the spraying water part would be lulzy.

I moved into a new estate a few years ago and people would come in from neighbouring bad areas just trying car doors or smashing windows if there were valuables inside.

If you had no valuables on display and your car door was locked you were fine though.
