Basically, you can buy a bunch of good companies (S&P 500) and then buy a few great companies (ones you've individually researched and think stand out compared to the rest of the S&P 500, like Microsoft)

The mere fact you're asking this question tells me you don't know what the fuk you're doing and you should just be blindly contributing to ETFs, which is fine. But now is like the only time in the last 2 years where i wouldn't advise doing so.

Indoor mask requirements picking up.
Politicians under investigations.
All news other than tech, generally negative.
Spy being unable to reclaim 440+
General rising awareness that we as an economy may be fuked.
Going to take another swing at the 437 spy put toward market close and have the courage to hold through any slight runup that might exist in the morning because i completely fumbled the play today. Should have been an 80% gain but only made away with 20%.

Selling my s&p500 funds during covid was easy AF because it was obvious tech was going to TROUNCE every other industry in a lockdown scenario.
Sadly, I left that cash for a while and my tech stocks MOONED.
I didn't imagine that level of disparity, but it happened.
Now I'm just sticking with good tech stonks, founder-led (with few exceptions), minimum $5b market cap (again, few exceptions). <-----This profile is VERY easy to sleep with.

AMC... lol that thing is $29 and has all the room in the world to go to $20, at which price I'd buy.

That should be public already or soon? You can also figure out when a company is releasing earnings way before it’s publicly announced based on some fairly basic analysis of the options. People with insider knowledge expose what’s happening well in advance. You can maybe determine which direction the earnings are going too 😉 but that’s another level.

This is going to go down as the biggest blunder in human history.
The spread of covid will drive decisions by policymakers which will negatively impact the economy.
I agree that we should at this point just let covid and it’s variants run its course. The less intelligent people and the countries with the highest levels of population growth (and lowest education levels) have the highest contagion and death rates.
The cleansing would be efficient.
For the first world, it accelerated automation, and reduced frictional work costs, as well as improved workforce efficiency. The substantial welfare/unemployment benefits will subside, we’ll see an “Amazonification” of employees at Walmart, McDonald’s etc (unskilled workers) where maybe the average entry level employee does make $15 an hour, but their data is monitored and they have the hardest working mfers in there with 3 people and machines doing the work of what 15 used to do.

I’m confident in my play. For the overall goal puts would only hinder me in the long term. Because I know personally, that I’m not going to make enough off the profits(due to shenanigans) to justify reinvesting into the stock. Better to just buy when I can and continue holding, while making as much as I can swing trading other **** I’m not convicted in. This market is ridiculously easy to make money right now and won’t last.
Hood puts are far out, I’m not worried.

Hedge funds would be selling premium when options are expensive and buying premium when they are cheap. Of course you need to do a bit of digging to know what is expensive which is easy enough by looking at the weeks following earnings to see how option premium compares. Knowing what is a good trade is tough. Thats why most people lose in the long run in the end when buying options.Carbon - not disagreeing with your DD. It's certainly more substantial than mine (for me it was a low risk play, I didn't care to lose the money, and I still haven't lost it since I have time to expiry). Question is, I posted that play prior to earnings - assuming you read it since you're bringing it up now from memory, why didn't you buy puts? Seems like easy money, yes? The DD probably took you a grand 5 minutes? Is it because there was some risk that you weren't comfortable taking?

my brother had almost 1/2M unrealized gains when it hit 70... now half of that +/- minus whatever he will pay in taxes... leaving life changing money on the table is crazy imho but maybe u right and the thing squeeze to oblivion
edit: the smell of put tendies in the morning for u intense lol
Robinhood $HOOD to sell 97,9 million shares from early investors (the same bloated billionaire VC funds that get in at dirt cheap prices). I said on my show be careful not to be long when lockup ends and firms begin ratings.
Be nimble if you are a trader.

Fuk me gently spy pre-market bid up to 440. Not even going to login to my broker for the first 30minutes of the day. The deep red would make me pull too early when I have a solid 4 days to expiration.
