Genetics and work ethic are everything in bodybuilding. Gear is obviously a huge part of it, but you can't give anyone OJ and think they will be an IFBB pro. I 100% guarantee you that 99% of people could take all the juice in the world and they won't even come close to looking like Nick Walker or Ronnie Coleman.
There are so many gym rats who use gear and still look like chit. It isn't an automatic pass to a great physique.

Go look up Cailer Woolem, I guarantee im twice his size but he deadlifts 1000lbs
strength is pretty much about increasing a stimulus to the muscles over time to where they can lift more and more and improving technique and playing on your leverages.
I can also lift more than guys bigger than me because I lift more for strength than they do and have better technique.
obviously drugs and genetics increase both of those things but just because someone has more muscle but is weaker than you doesnt mean its because of drugs/genetics, it could quite easily just be because they train for hypertrophy, eat for hypertrophy, and recover based on hypertrophy.
The guy doing 3 sets of 15 to failure and eating chicken and rice and sleeping 8 hrs a night and never drinking is going to be bigger than
the guy doing 5 warm up sets then 2 triples follow by accessory work then eats pizza and chicken wings for lunch and dinner and slams 2 tall boys before bed.
The 2nd guy may get stronger because hes training strength specific and still hitting protein needs but may look like dog**** because he doesnt recover quickly and doesnt give himself the correct nutrients or volume for muscle hypertrophy.

High level sports of all kinds come down to genetics and drugs. Is training important yes but what kind of training is effective and what you can survive is dependent on….genetics and drugs. Go figure.
Is gear worth it? Depends. If you are not already competing at a high level in your chosen sport probably not. If ur just another guy then don’t do it-you will still be behind more talented bros who one day also get on the juice.

The body can really only take in so many drugs too, usually about 2g/week for a big guy, 1-1.5 for newer smaller amateurs, anything beyond that and youre overflooding the receptors and you wont get any added benefit.
Now theres some coaches I know who are more like chemist mad scientists with all sorts of flavors of OJ and can do some crazy things by manipulating things but not really amounts if you know what I am saying. Think like a martini made with just the right ingredients vs a long island iced tea.

I'm full natty and natty bbing has definitely been worth it. Sure you'll never look like a juiced up fitness model but I went from looking like a soyboy wimp with noodle arms to strong, my arms are probably twice the circumference now. Also get more respect from dudes. That's not even counting the huge benefits to health and metabolism.

I think the point was just saying that at the highest levels (like anything else i.e. the Olympics),
it comes down to genetics and drugs
but agree, natty recreational bodybuilding is 110% worth it for the benefits

Always been that way, always laugh at the "you just didn't train as hard as them". There are a million natty brahs out there that are muscle mormons that go all in and take it just as srs but will never look anywhere near as good cause they not using drugs.

The ones with genetics win 10/10 times even on lower drugs and lower work quality.
The ones on lower drugs and higher work quality come in second.
The ones with high drugs and low work quality and low genetics come last.
the problem is the guys with good genetics taking a lot of drugs and low work quality, because they make it look like its all drugs but its really not.
with the exception of master genetics with PED response, PEDs will only be as effective as the work put in and diet being on point to really see dramatic changes.

I have played with several high level semi pro athletes in football, one of them even made practice sqauds in the NFL.
I asked him about the top end pro players in the NFL & not as an excuse but he simply stated genetics which is why you see 2-3 brothers that are pro & there dad and grandfather & uncles where pro athletes also.
They do work hard as hell but I mean these top tier athletes are born with a god given talent that others will never be able to reach.
Genetics
gear
work ethic.
This is reality I would say for pro sports...also btw most of them are on something, usually HGH for recovery.
