The daily commute to work + the time and effort needed to get out of bed, shower, fix hair, get dressed etc. ... for many people, those actions are more annoying than the actual job itself.

Assuming their job responisibilties are the same -- those people who have to come in the office should get paid more than those people who work from home.

Key word is civil servants though. Government employees are literally just one step about welfare recipients in terms of their complete lack of work ethic and utter dedication to doing absolutely nothing other than sitting on their azz and drawing a salary.

Government should be looking for anyway to cut costs that they can think of. Better yet, they should just fire 95% of their employees and hand those saving off to the taxpayer.

But when I work from home, I have to maintain an office, provide my own coffee, pay the water, sewer, electric, internet and phone bills, etc. It all comes out in the wash...

But you don't have to spend on gas / bus / train fares. You don't have to spend on dry cleaning (you work from home in your pajamas, boxers, or in the nude). You don't buy lunch from the stores near your office, which are more expensive than the food you can cook at home. etc etc etc.

You can bring a lunch. I'm SAVING THE COMPANY MONEY by not using the electric, water, sewer, drinking the coffee they provide, maintaining the office, etc. Our company was able to terminate a lease on an office building, saving even more money. So why should they pay me less for saving them money?

Apple just built a 5 billion dollar office in silicon valley. That's like saying Tim Cook doesn't have an argument for wanting his employees to come into the office because he's saving money by not having to use his brand new facility. lol

These companies spent fortunes on their buildings and they want their employees to use them.

Whatever they're saving by you not coming into the office is minuscule, not even worth bringing up.

Agree with all of these things, but the statement in question is about civil servants-- government drones who sit behind a desk and answer phones or check boxes or whatever.

These are the people who never pick up when you call the DMV during business hours, or take a month to respond to your question about the tax code, or act like an kent to you after you've been standing in line for an hour and a half. Most of them are unionized, unfireable, and just counting down the days until they can retire on a phuckin' massive government pension.

They should all, frankly, be beaten in a public square (most to death, but only because I realize it is impractical to beat all of them to death) for their impudence. The fact that they are only being asked to take a pay cut ought make them thankful for their second chance at life.

People should be compensated for their commute. Maybe not at the same rate they make at work since it's just driving but the commute is very much a part of your job.

The company still has to pay for their office buildings & a lot of the utilities, regardless of whether you're there or not. (unless no one is there, which would allow them shut off all the lights and water etc. But I'm guessing that's not the case)

Chase bank has their customer support team working from home and they all sound like garbage. I don't know what kind of equipment they use but for all the money they have, that technology sucks balls.

Because the government employees unionized, overpaid, unfireable drones who perform their jobs poorly. Poorly isn't even a descriptive enough word to describe their ineptitude. It doesn't convey the deep-seated loathing that they all seem to have to the people who directly pay their salary and are their immediate stakeholders.

The fact that a politician is trying to lower the costs of that chit-tier labor, savings that will-- in a direct, lineal fashion-- be handed back to the taxpayer, is absolutely incredible.

If it was really my choice, I think the best thing to do would be to just slash and burn. Reduce employment by 90% (or more if feasible) across the board. You'd save so much money (that again, would be passed on directly to the taxpayer-- aka you and me) that hell, you might be able to give the ones who didn't get chitcanned a raise to reward them for not being complete incompetents!

I would feel completely differently if we were discussing a private business that had a profit motive that required them to provide a service which correlates to their pricing. But we're not. We're discussing the largest money pit in the history of human civilization: the government. Maybe they would stop pissing and moaning so much about having to work from the office like almost everyone else in a similar field too. We call that a win-win brah.
