Fighting/escalating a fight with a stranger?

(Asking, because I'm genuinely not prepared/level headed with this sort of thing as I'm a somewhat new adult)
Never been in a situation since school, but asking for future reference.

So, what would you do if you're out on your own, and some guy starts starting/swearing at you? Tv has taught me to swear back, shove them, then bash them to pieces. However, that's unrealistic as I'd probably get put in prison and have a bashed face/be hospitalised.

My thought process at the moment. If I'm walking down a street/anywhere: (Question marks because I'm unsure) (For ALL of these, their size matters)

Scenario 1: If a guy swears at me, swear back, provoke a fight, bash them.
Scenario 2: If a group of guys swear at me, walk off. I'm not acting hero and getting destroyed?
Scenario 3: If a huge guy starts problems, walk off? Not willing to fight a fight I'll obviously lose.
Scenario 4: If a teenager swears or starts on me, walk off? Being an adult, I can't fight them or I'll go to prison? This one's awkward, as a past young teen, I know there'd be follow up problems lol.
Scenario 5: If a female swears at me, walk off?
Scenario 6: If a drunk guy comes at me, I have no idea. Walk off/ignore?

Any ideas/advice with awkward fighting kinds of people?

Thanks.

EDIT: For those saying that some scenarios may never happen, and that I might just be an unruly character. If you're out and about a lot of the time, it's inevitable to encounter a dodgy person.

That's the thing, so are you saying to retreat all the time? Only fight if they hit?

I don't know how to avoid that kind of stuff? I'm assuming I shouldn't hit first, or hurt the other person too bad?

No matter the opponent I'd recommend never get in a fight unless you know the incident is recorded and you can prove you were in danger and needed to defend yourself to neutralize the threat. Unless of course you like the possibility of going to jail. A good lawyer to get you out of assault or attempted murder charges ain't cheap with or without varrying levels of supporting evidence. As pissed off and wronged as you may feel at the time it ain't worth it. I know from experience dude.

99.9% of the time, in every scenario you just listed would never happen unless you were instigating some chit

nobody just randomly swears and starts chit with people. if they do, they are clearly just crazy and you should walk away

This is the smart answer. You don't know who the person is coming at you. Do you want to risk your livelihood over some scum from the streets? Not at all worth it when you have a lot to lose. 9/10 instigators like this have nothing to lose.

That being said, I don't have much concern about this happening because 1.) I'm a big guy, and not many people are going to actively start a fight with someone my size and 2.) I carry a firearm. If I did find myself in this kind of situation I would only engage/draw my weapon if I felt either my life or the life of someone else was in jeopardy. Otherwise I will try to deescalate the situation first.

Hmmm I see. As you said, you'd have to prove you were in danger? So, if I was an amazing ljar, I could destroy someone, then lie about how it all started? Or is there more to it than that?

I see, so, just try your best not to get into a fight or something? Even though I lift, crime/criminals have always freaked me out.

It's called verbal jiu jitsu, try to deescalate the situation with a joke or something. Most of the time it's taught to mixed martial artist because they were knocking people out and people were hitting their heads on the ground n dying, boom manslaughter charge. It's not worth it dude, save fighting when all other options have been exhausted.

Most of the time, yes. Landing (with no input of your own) in a situation that has zero possibility of you getting out of it with no conflict, and you absolutely 100% must fight is extraordinarily rare. Certainly not something most people will ever encounter in their lifetime. Your efforts would be better towards learning situational awareness and how to not land yourself in those situations in the first place.

Well, I asked updated the top post because of this. I think, when you're out an about for more that 8 hours a day, it's inevitable that you may encounter a dodgy character. Hence the thread filled with precautionary advice.

Sure you can lie but what does it mean without evidence? Your word against someone else's in court and jury generally sides with the crying family of the dead person without evidence.

Yeah? Hmmm, true I guess. The thing is, once I get in a situation, I may not think rationally.

I see, so when was the last time you were actually in fight? (Punching and verbal) Another thing. If you're with a group of friends, the liklihood is that you won't get started on. I'm just thinking about when I go shopping on my own and some clown tries mugging with a weapon or something. The news has messed with my head a bit.

Ah very true I guess. I guess it's a lot of psychology aswell. I'll keep that in mind. Fix your link, I wouldn't mind learning about verbal jiu jitsu.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. As, in school, it really wasn't a big deal to fight, as the repercussions were barely anything. In the "real world", fighting is the most riskiest thing to do, but it happens everywhere.

Haven't been in a fight since high school. You need to be smart. If you get backed into a corner, then you do what you need to do.....but escaping the situation is always going to be the smartest move. You also really need to consider your state and local laws. Not all states have a stand your ground law.

I see, the thing is, in the "adult world", most of the logical situations end up looking kind of cowardly/unmasculine. But I'm just trying to figure out which one to favour in a situation. Fight like a hero, or retreat and carry on with what I was doing.

I don't know though, most fights can be life changing. The health implications, prison and your family thinking you're a horrible person. Aghhh!!

I'm thinking the best thing to do might be to retreat.

I honestly have no idea on how all that works, but I see what you're saying.

So if any of the scenarios above happened to you, would you just retreat at all costs?

fixed, n btw if theres chicks around and they see you deescalate **** properly, they will be more interested in you, it's more alpha than fighting because they know you're not insecure. The scariest most dangerous mofos I've met (special operations) were all humble dudes that practiced this tactic.

4yr of training in muay thai and I carry so de-escalation is always the primary MO. Has to be a really bad situation to get into a fight otherwise I could get in a lot of trouble; probably in way more trouble than most rando losers who would start fights with strangers.

You said it yourself, this is now the "adult world". Fighting in high school might have been the masculine thing to do and get all the girls dripping wet. In the adult real world, you'd literally be the only one who would consider it either cowardly or unmasculine by getting out of a chitty situation properly.
