This. A lot of people’s investment accounts double or tripled from this time last year and they suddenly had enough to retire comfortably on. Literally coasting until death now.

Do you think people currently experience more joy/happiness than a few hundred years ago?

The answer in unequivocally no. In fact, humans are the least happy they have ever been.

The idea of full time employment needed to be a productive member of society is a lie told by those who get rich off your wasted life.

Just lmao.at trading your precious time on earth for a nicer car. When you're on your death bed I'm sure you're biggest regret will be not putting in more hours at the office...

Enough to eat and a place to stay plus free time to be spent exploring our world >>>>> 40 hr work week to make 40k. Your quality of life literally goes down being full time employed, regardless of salary.

American culture is work work work.

The one thing that Eurobrahs have on us is vacation days (26 days in cetrtain countries, not including 10+ or so holidays), and the fact that it isn’t materialistic. People don’t care what car you drive, what you own, etc, which makes the rat race nonexistent. I guess women care less about what their man does too. Most everyone is sort of down to earth. For fuk sake eurobrahs barely have washers/dryers and A/C in their homes/units. Talk about living modestly

Consumerism is the big religion brainwashed into society to trick them into working and building wealth for the ultra rich.

The ultra rich, ironically, DONT WORK.

Absolute waste of our precious little time.

I went from working 50-60 hr weeks to 25 on average. I make less money, I am way happier. I am self employed, which allowed me that freedom. Refuse to build someone else's wealth when I know it is a rigged game.

Edit - just look at this thread, 4 pages of mouth breathers patting themselves on the back for being hoodwinked into denigrating their own quality of life.

10% of the population owns 90% of the wealth.

.003% of the population control 14% of the wealth.

And yet poor people still blame other poor people for why they are poor.

poor people only see other poor people, so they blame each other. Turns out a lot of poor people are fukking retarded, but so is most the middle class.

Not sure what to do about it. Large, monopoly driven corporations are definitely the issue, but you can't call Amazon a monopoly without having a chit ton of libertarians come out of the woodwork and defend Jesus Bezos. Its almost as if they idolize single point prosperity more than actual personal freedom.

Guarding the freedom to be rich enough to take everyone else's freedoms isn't, well, freedom.

Because working fuking sucks.

And in the case of men there was the old social contract that said you put in your hours at work and in reward you get a nice feminine wife who will have dinner on the table when you get home to your nice and reasonably priced house. You get kids who respect you. You're the head of your household, and well regarded in your community. That social contract has been broken.

So why bust your ass anymore. To collect a poverty salary?
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

No, its YOUR fault the only job in town is warehouse work because all trades have been turned into charley work by companies that could jump through all the red tape to start because handy men can't do anything but ACTUALLY fix stuff....

We have a system that rewards people for jumping through hoops, not for providing the product they sell.

Well said.

Capitalism is still the best option. Upward mobility must always be an option.

However, Capitalism should have its limits. No one man should ever be worth the equivalent of what the Jeff bozos are worth.

Socialism isn't the naughty word most Americans have been brainwashed to believe it is. In fact, Americans are way more socialist than they think. Just turn on your shower, drive on the highway. Flush your toilet, all socialist programs.

I do it so that I have a house to live in, a nice truck I enjoy driving, a hobby that costs money(bodybuilding), so I have money to retire with early in life, so that I can enjoy cheat meal dates and some vacations. None of my having a job motivation honestly was about having a woman at home cooking dinner for me. That comes from my gymmaxxing

Except that nice truck doesn't improve your quality of life as much as working the hours to pay for it reduces it. They got you in their trap.

If people got a flat "per head" payment then there would be no disincentive to work and earn more money. As is earning $1 too much can leave you thousands of dollars worse off in terms of government benefits.

Also we spend a lot of money employing paper pushers to administrate all of the different programs.

If we paid "per head", had single payer healthcare [not necessarily "free" to the end user], and served actually nutritious high quality free meals in the schools for all children I think a lot of things in this country would get much better.

There would no longer be an incentive to NOT marry the parent of your child [more government money] or to have MORE children [more government money] or to work FEWER hours [more government money].

Employers wouldn't be burdened with the cost of health insurance which would be a huge boon to small employers in particular. Employees wouldn't be tied to work because they need the health insurance [more entrepreneurs, more people able to retire].

I know that most miscer see UBI [or negative income tax] and single payer as anti-capitalist, but I sincerely think that the actual outcome would be positive.
This is also what I have said many times. Though some anti UBI people have pointed out a potential issue that is easy to see would be convincing Government to actually scrap all the welfare programs for a UBI and that the most likely scenario would be Government just adding a UBI in addition to welfare, in which case you would still have all the same issues listed above.

But IF (and that is a big IF) Government were to remove all the welfare programs and in it's place put a standard UBI per head, i think a lot more people would support it.

so because I got a nice truck over a reliable good value car and pay maybe $300 more a month, then I work an extra day a month for that luxury, and if I dont dislike my specific role/job thats not bad at all lol. I would gladly work one 8 hour day to get to drive around 365 days a year in a vehicle I love that can go offroading and mog other people and is luxurious AF inside with a good sound system and I know it will last me 10 years.
