People Are Huge Nowadays

Just went to a local fair near me, must have been thousands of people there, it’s really interesting how big people have gotten both in terms of height and frame size.

I am 5’7.5, without shoes mid-day. I felt like a kid today. Out of hundreds of men I observed I was taller than around 10-15 of them. I saw lots of middle school and high school aged kids over 6’0, tons of girls and women in the 5’8-6’0 range. I would say the average height for a male was about 5’11 and the average height for a female was 5’7. Sometimes I doubt that 5’9 average male and 5’4 average female statistic.

The fair was fairly diverse racially too, even the Indians/Pakis, Middle Easterners, Puerto Rican’s, etc weren’t short, at least not most of them. The males seemed to be more 5’9 range on average. I saw a few Asians, the males seemed to average 5’9 range as well. The white and black males seemed closer to 5’11 range on average.

Personally I don’t think white American males are really any shorter than German males for example who apparently average 5’11 range, it’s that the average is brought down by non-white Hispanics, Indians, Arabs, Asians, etc.

But even when you look up average white Americans male height it says something like 5’9 range, and has Hispanics and Asians something like 5’7 range.

Anyone else sometimes doubt the 5’9 male average?

Yeah 6'10 used to be the cut off but we've seen some height inflation recently. You really want to be atleast 7' to 7'3 to have a chance in this life. Otherwise you're fuked

Interesting, that does seem to be true because at the fair I was probably in the 10th percentile range for a male. While at a grocery store or something like that I am more in the 20th percentile range which is what a 5’7 guy is supposed to be.

yea manlets are all at home gaming/on reddit. only tallcels get motivated enough to compete in social settings where the height is inflated by dudes on dates or approaching sloots in venues where it is acceptable.. ofc there are exceptions,, but as with everything its more of a spectrum than black and white phenomenon

It’s not like the are tall and frail either, most aren’t lanklets. They are just big people overall. Their head size, shoulder width, frame size, leg length, etc.

You know, I think there is some truth to that. I would bet that statistics would show that shorter men are less likely to be employed as well, if such a study was done. Because it can lead to self esteem issues and therefore contribute to preventing them from not only applying for work but showing up for a job were they are constantly around people that are not only taller than them but tower over them.

The average American woman 20 years old and up weighs 170.6 poundsTrusted Source and stands at 63.7 inches (almost 5 feet, 4 inches) tall.

And the average waist circumference? It’s 38.6 inches.

These numbers may or may not be surprising to you. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)Trusted Source has reported that some 39.8 percent of adults in the United States are obese, based on data through 2016.

Any major corporate these days dudes are tall af. I'm 6'2 and am probably average height amongst the white males especially new hires. Asians etc are shorter but I reckon 6'3 is the new 6'0 if you know what im sayin.

You have to remember 50% of US is White these days. Huge amounts of immigration to all major 1st world countries is gonna bring the average heights down significantly. Also oldcels aren't as tall. Im near 30, im not as tall as the new guys coming through even though I would have been considered "average tall" when I was their age. There are a lot more what I consider freak heights as well. There used to be maybe 1-2 6'5+ guys at bars 10-15 years ago who were usually lanklets. These days there are several and they have normal proportions and are just fuking big bois.

At my school 10-15 years ago it was predominantly white. Average height for the males had to be 6'0. The shortest was 5'6 and he coped so much chit from everyone for being short. I can remember a handful in the 5'7-5'9 range. The bulk were 5'10-6'1 (remember they grow another inch or two after high school). And there were probably double the amount of 5'6-5'9 in the 6'2-6'7 range. The tallest was a few years ahead of me at 6'11 (srs) there was no-one finishing highschool below 5'6 as a male.
I always try to preach positivity to shorter guys on here. I always say that face, personality, and style are the most important traits. That height is just a huge bonus, so is having nice teeth, a good income, a good build, thick hair, nice eyes, etc. Of course different traits are more or less important generally. However I won’t deny that being shorter is a significant disadvantage that absolutely needs to be compensated with several of the above important traits.

Think about guys like a young Al Pacino (5’6), James Cagney (5’5), James McAvoy (5’7) James Dean (5’7) etc. Regardless if they were celebs or not they would never have issues finding women to date them. Because they have several other positive traits both in terms of appearance/style and personality/confidence that are able to push them above most taller guys. But even then all things being equal the taller guy has the advantage unless the shorter guy just vibes better with the girl.

Also I am half Sicilian, and the average height in Sicily is 5’7 range. Within Italian-American groups I find myself lower average range, not particularly short. People I know that live in Texas around plenty of Mexicans say I would be upper average range compared to Mexicans there.

Such a study has been done on the average height of CEOs:

Apparently average height peaked in the 90s in the U.S. The average male height hit 5’10 for a time and then dropped down to 5’9 and a bit. Now I’m just seeing 5’9 flat listed as the average which I don’t believe.

lol there’s no doubt more and more parents are giving their kids HGH to help them grow over 6’ tall

It’s common in South Korea for parents who don’t mind spending $100k knowing their kid’s height is imperative to their success and ability to reproduce (grandchildren) in today’s hyper competitive society, so a country like the US that is 5x wealthier is going to see an even greater amount of this. That is the only explanation I have for why young people are getting taller

I wish I cared about this chit when I was a kid. I would sleep like 4 hours a night and go to school & skip breakfast. Plus my mom smoked when she was pregnant with me, the doctor said it would do more damage if she quit.

Your sleep wouldn’t really matter imo. But yeah a lot of parents don’t prioritize the amount of calories and healthy food their kids eat these days. You might have missed out on a couple Cm at most, and the rest of your height genetic

I know but that isn’t my point, my point is whether these good looking, stylish, confident guys were celebs or not they would still pull plenty of chicks. That height isn’t the be all end all. The vast majority of chicks would pick James Dean over most tall guys. Regardless if he was famous. Now make all things equal besides height, put a guy like James Dean at 5’7 against a 6’3 guy like Chris Hemsworth where you have two guys who are good looking, stylish, and confident. Now we will likely see height become a factor for many girls.

I’ve read that height is 60-80% hereditary/genetic, and 40-20% environmental, which includes diet, physical activity, as well as other things.

It's been well known for a long time that there is a connection between socioeconomic status and height. I'm talking like 19th century, or even earlier. I have no doubt that there's some Medieval, Renaissance, Ancient Greek, Rome quotes/texts about this.

Yeah dude it’s kind of nuts. I’m 6’2.5” and I feel average around dudes in my office. We got three dudes at least who are 6’4, most around 6’2 6’3 only a handful who are 5’10 and below most are younger dudes too

It's been well known for a long time that there is a connection between socioeconomic status and height. I'm talking like 19th century, or even earlier. I have no doubt that there's some Medieval, Renaissance, Ancient Greek, Rome quotes/texts about this.
Hmm yeah perhaps it was more well studied amongst the Mediterranean’s since like you say, the height in those regions isn’t nearly 6’ average like say Scandinavia or Uk

I’d interpret that as more along the lines of necessary emphasis due to knowing most people didn’t approach the 6’+ height standard for being “tall”
