Can't bench or deadlift for at least another month so...

I was diagnosed with a stress reaction in my forearm, which will develop into a fracture so I have to rest it for a while. Already been 5 weeks, and at least 3 more weeks until I can start testing it.

I'm squatting/doing lower body 3X per week instead. Current training looks like this:

Tuesday: 5/3/1 squat alternate 3 week waves with straight bar, straight bar with bands, SS Yoke bar

Friday: Max effort squat, various bars with briefs or full gear.

Sunday: Rep or high RPE Good morning variations

Recently I hit a 525 raw squat (20# PR), a 710 squat in briefs using the Duffalo bar (55# PR), and a 435 Good morning with a straight bar (10# PR).

Going to be another 3-4 months at least before I can bench heavy again, hopefully by then I'll have built a huge squat.

No time to slow down brahs.

Mirin non-****gotattitude OP.

What kind of symptoms did you have leading up to diagnosis?

Maybe a stupid question-- you look like a powerlifter so maybe this is a common thing in that community. Just wondering if it was similar to tendinitis or something else more universal among lifters.

During meet prep, I started feeling a pain in my arm, like the bones in my forearm were bending whenever I unracked and then settled the weight (anything 550+). Pain and discomfort through the entire lift. (For reference, my best gym bench is 625, and I have done a 685 board press, so I have spent a lot of time in the mid 500s and up, this is normal working weight for me). I would tell my training partners that I felt like my arm was going to break, and to stay close while spotting just in case it did. The pain would last for 2-3 days, and then again when I would deadlift. Usually by my next bench day, I felt fine, so I would just keep going. The pain would be throbbing and constant, a lot like tendinitis. Being in meet prep, I just backed off my volume a little and sucked it up with the heavy sets.

I tore something in my hamstring and also it appears I have a partial detachment, im very lean right now and you can very easily see one hamstring attachment is totally different than the other.

I havnt seen a doctor though and it doesnt hurt and Ive been able to do leg curls the past 2 weeks so going to try RDLs again this week and then maybe some deadlifts this weekend

On meet day (May 15) I took an opener bench, and then 600 for my second. I cranked my wrist badly on the 600 but locked it out. Then I said if I took a 3rd bench, my arm was going to break.

I took 3 weeks off after the meet, then came back and took 555 and the same pain came right back. So I went to the ortho and the MRI confirmed it. We came up with a rest/recovery plan but if I feel even the slightest pain in that arm, I have to shut it back down. So right now I'm looking at Sept 17 as my first bench day, where I'll work up to 135 and see how it feels the next day.

I don't think it's that common, as I asked several of the biggest benchers I know (I mean 900-1000+ benchers) and none of them had experienced this kind of pain before. That was also a good indicator for me that there was a problem.

This sounds like a powerlifter thing then. I do a lot of calisthenics-- tons of pull-ups, etc. and I have this weird tendinitis in my forearm that flares up a lot. I'll take time off and rest it, I'll work around the injury instead of through it, I'll reduce the number of reps, sets, weight (on weighted pull-ups), whatever. All the same, it just won't seem to heal.

Sorry for deer die area but it's just driving me crazy trying to figure out how to deal with it. Last month have basically given up and just work through the pain.

Persistent pain should always be checked out by a doctor. I have an ortho that I trust and he has kept me in the game for years now. It could just be tendinitis, could be something more; but a good doctor can get you on the right path to healing.
