This ^ Money can exponentially increase a perhaps happiness assuming they are generally OK to begin with. All the money in the world won't help someone suffering from depression however. Look how many celebrities have committed suicide despite having the world at their finger tips.

The saying doesn't claim you can't be happy while having wealth, it is stating it doesn't guarantee happiness.

I've known several wealthy men who were not happy, including my father.

I completely agree with the last sentence and can sorta agree with the first. Sometimes the big difference in someones life is being able to buy like 6-12 months of freedom so that person can pursue what he or she really wants and make something of it. If you get caught up in the money when you're actually doing something you love, then what more could you want out of life. If you get caught up in it because you're just chasing some imaginary number , then money will never do anything for you.

Crying in a rolls still sucks, lol at slaving your whole life to get rich just to be miserable in a nicer car.

I just bought my first house. Its nice. But I still hate life and want to off myself so what difference does it really make.

Disagree...it has been shown that people's happiness doesn't increase once they have all the essentials and have income over ~75k per year.

My accounting boss was on 400k per year and was president of the most elite golf club in the city - was also the most miserable man I've ever met. His wife worked in the office and they hated each other, his two kids hated him and only every talked to him to ask for money. He could never have enough either, always wanted more money just to buy more useless crap that would elevate him above others.

I used to chase the $s but it's a far more fulfilling and satisfying life to cultivate relationships, set a good example for the next generation and be content with what you've got.

I think lots of people are missing the forest for the trees in regards to the OP. Buying lots of material goods is not guaranteed to bring you happiness in any way. However, the freedom to pursue whatever you want (which is brought about by having lots of money) can bring you happiness

It can help to take care of some of life’s problems. But I’d rather be poor with a loving, loyal, tight-knit family, than rich and barely know my own son while the wife is cheating on me and just using me as an ATM.

Hah yeah, sounds like a pretty typical finance bro slash accountant in my experience.

So true about money not making you happy though - people who chase money are just miserable and have nothing going in side, and so instead of sorting that problem out, they just focus on the outside.

Ok I see the point everyone is making about money not being the source of happiness, but it absolutely could make your life better. I've already gone through depression in my past, I know my own fragile mentality was the cause of it and I got myself out of it. I'm okay with life right now even though my situation isn't the best.

People who think money will fix all of their problems and change their state of mind (permanently) will be in for a rude awakening. Once that excitement wears off, you'll fall back into the dark depths of your mind because that's what you have to personally overcome. But money can help give you a peace of mind from financial stress at least and you have more time to do whatever you want including working on yourself.

Dude you're overcompensating with money - no hate though, once again i am about that money game my self, but it does not and will not make you happy form the inside.
