Depends on the situation; there can't be an overall pay/don't pay attitude.
If I am out with a girl, I asked her out. Regardless of the outcome I pay for it. If she asked me out (lol just imagine) and we found out we didn't get along or wouldn't, then she should pay and I would insist on it. If she asked me out and we got along I would at least offer to pay.
Out with the guys we all just pay for ourselves. I used to pay for others and they would tell me "I'll get it next time" but they would bitch out on that when the opportunity came.

On the first few dates I’ll always pick it up. I’m old fashioned that way and that’s just a personal thing. I’m also not expecting a return here. Maybe the “quality” of women can be seemed as diminished(I disagree with this) but it doesn’t change the quality of person I am. I also don’t ask women out just to go out or get laid, I can tell if I am wasting my time or not. So what if I pick up a dinner/date and we don’t click? That’s why we went out. To see.
