You have to be willing to take a partial L and live to fight another day. Like if CargoX is down 80% of current value a couple months from now. Their github isn't updated, twitter page is dead, no communication with community, etc. Yes, losing $8k doesn't feel good, but you can still salvage something and work to flip it back into profits.

Recommendations for best Crypto exchange/ provider If I want to just hold for long-term ( 2+ year most likely ) that will have the lowest fees when selling for a profit ( hopefully...)? Most look like they are all percentage based ( 0.9% )

They are top tier holds for hodlers due to the 15% APY.
Also consistently the #2 project in all of crypto by development activity (after Cardano).
