Travel nursing is a temporary and flaky job. They can get fired easily for any little thing, and get reassigned by the agency.

So I really don't understand why leaving this one hospital is so upending, unless your point is that ALL hospitals will have this requirement and therefore, cannot continue her career path.

I have absolute 0 concern that we'll be just fine.

To be completely honest it feels liberating. I'm excited for my wife to see what her next phase of life is. She's been burned out from the hospital setting for a long time now. She used to be a staff nurse, and the reason she switched to traveling was she was hoping it would bring back the spark to and make her excited again about nursing. While we enjoyed the actual travelling part of it, the nursing part was the same, and often times worse. I'm very excited to see what the future holds for her.

I know 4 travel nurses who are loving covid season with 100-200$ an hour gigs, apartment is paid for, food is paid for.......
I know 2 nurses who work for hospitals who have goten 6 raises since covid as employee retention.....they're all making over 100k a year now with normal 3 12's a week. They get overtime to hustle and pay off houses, toys, and hobbies.

Yes and no on the firing. Due to them being board certified to work in the state they do......its a little different.


Show up late every day and they have no issues replacing you? Yeah, you're gone
Show up late every day and they cannot find replacements? They'd probably ignore it
Kill a patient? Investigation would happen, state board would meet to see if they should strip you of your certification etc etc.....

Truly depends on the reasoning for wanting to fire you really.....but all in all they don't fire RN's or Providers willy nilly.......other staff? All day eury day unless they really need people.

I'm 100% sure our friends and family will think that we're overreacting and are foolish for taking this stance. I'm good with that though because I have to look myself in the mirror everyday, they don't. The moment I sacrifice my values and principles for money, my soul is gone. This entire pandemic has never added up. From the fake videos of the chinese keeling over in the street, to this incredible push to get people vaccinated that isn't even allowed to be questioned in the slightest without being labelled a moron, anti-vaxxer, racist, etc., has never felt right to me.

I truly hope, for everyone's sake, that this vaccine is safe and proves to be so 5 or 10 years down the line. I'll be part of the control group, regardless of what that costs me. JnJ and Pfizer have a significant track record of mistakes. Moderna has never even brought another drug to market to my knowledge. No chance i'll be a guinea pig for these companies.

Stay strong people. It feels lonely, but I think there are a lot more of us out there than they're leading on. Some sacrifices will have to be made, but keeping your values and principles intact are worthy of those sacrifices.

Wow this is some great vaccine that they've come up with seeing how people fully vaccinated are in the hospitals and dying daily from Covid even after getting this stupid basically experimintal forced jab.

I applaud OP and your wife. If my company tries to force this on me I will do the exact same. I expect that it's coming but I'll definitely try to bs and use religion or something first, but I'm not taking an experimental vaccine for a virus that I have a 99% chance of surviving. More important the govt and my company who could fire me for anything at any moment, has no right to tell me what I must inject into my body. My body my choice applies to abortion rights so it should apply here too.

Can you sue and expect to win if you claim religion and are fired? Obviously they can fire you for anything, but if you've never had a bad performance review, have met quota, and never had a warning then a solid lawyer would have an easy case I would figure.

You have my sympathies. I do wonder why exceptions haven't been carved out for people who have survived prior infection. Fortunately, apart from transient sides like a little nausea or headache or achiness, vaccine side effects - especially of the severe variety - are incredibly rare, so you shouldn't be afraid of the vaccine anyway. Also, studies have shown that covid survivors who have taken the vax are even less likely to get reinfection than unvaxxed covid survivors.

From a policy-creating standpoint, I can understand not wanting to give the vaccine-hesitant masses even more excuses to avoid the jab, though - e.g. "I'm pretty sure that headache/mild fever/cough/whatever I had in 2020 was covid, so I don't need to get the vaccine."

From what I've read, immunity to sars-cov2, even if acquired by natural infection, will only last so long. A person's immunity will wane over time until they're again vulnerable to the disease caused by infection. Vaccines, boosters, or encountering the virus in the wild again will be periodically necessary to beef up your immune response.
