Best places to live in Tennessee?
Looking to relocate my family, and TN is on our list of states we’re considering.
We have young kids and would prefer a rural area, but still reasonably close to civilization. Somewhere in the 5-25 acres range for property size would be preferred, but we’re open to pretty much whatever.
What areas of the state should we be looking into?
Any major pros or cons to living in TN that you feel are worth mentioning?

Any place on the outskirts of Nashville or Knoxville will suit your needs. TN is my home state and I always liked living in the Fairview/Bon Aqua area the most.

Grew up in Nashville from 3-22 years old (besides 2 years in Johnson City for college). Heres a basic summary:
Brentwood/Franklin/Belle Meade:
Prob the most wealthy area in TN. Safe to live, mostly right-wingers, good schools (public & private), suburb. Teens here are *******s with money. Strict parents causes these kids to become re-tards when away from parents sight.
Green Hills:
Hipster area, lots of rich folks here. Generally left-wing area (worked at the YMCA for 4 years). A bit more "city vibe", but not quite downtown.
Antioch: Really hit or miss here. Some areas are solid, some are ghetto af. Usually the closer it is to Brentwood, the better it is.
Murfreesboro: Unless your going to MTSU, avoid here. Went to MTSU for 2 years. Nothing to see or do outside the school. And its pretty ghetto.
Bellevue: Solid suburb area.
Downtown: Not sure why anyone would want to live downtown. Parking is available at all times and inexpensive compared to other large cities.

Brentwood/Franklin/Bell Meade type are is probably what we’d be aiming for, assuming that it’s possible to find a somewhat secluded chunk of acreage there.

stay out of knoxville. morristown is a nice quite town about an hr outside Knoxville. depends on what you are looking for.

I was born under the big sky, but TN probably has a lot milder climate than TX.
In OK there is a nice looking town north of Tulsa:

I was curious about Clarksville, TN and did a drive through...one big busy road with a lot of traffic and businesses is what I saw, but could be fine if you plan to live outside it.

OK is still probably my first choice, with TN coming in second. I’ve had a couple of coworkers mention the Gatlinburg area too, I’ll check it out.
Never heard of Owasso, but that website listed one of the cons being “violent crime rate”. Sounds sketchy lol.
I really like the state of Texas, I just can’t get past the idea that it’ll turn blue in the near future. I’d hate to uproot my family just to wind up in another blue state. Ultimately, one of the goals of us moving is to avoid liberal policies.

Stay away from the major cities in TN...we're talking murder central. Memphis is having a record murder year and they're always near the top of the highest murder rate in the USA.
Nashville has become very inner city and crime ridden. I've driven through Nashville many times and it's awful. And there's many stories like this:

Northeast TN is where it's at. Mountains, rivers, lakes, 4x4 trails...
Definitely the rural area you're looking for.
The only negative is jobs. If you're in health care you'll be okay. But not many career jobs around. Maybe engineering since it's a heavy manufacturing economy around here.
Gatlinburg is cool but no way in hell I'd live there. Living in NE TN you're close enough to it for a day or weekend trip and that's all you need once a year imo.

Two teens accused in a musicians murder have been formally indicted by a grand jury.
Diamond Lewis and Decorrius Wright are each charged with first-degree murder in connection with Kyle Yorlets’ death.
The Nashville Musician was shot and killed at his West Nashville home in 2019.

We also spent some time in Chatannooga. There are some real sketchy areas. Off the main area, it's nicer but if you have to work in the city, it's sketchy.
I would look towards eastern TN and also check out the demographics of the city you're looking to move to/nearby. Avoid areas where you have to travel to the cities to do shopping/business/work as they are very ghetto in TN.

Nashville has become very inner city and crime ridden. I've driven through Nashville many times and it's awful. And there's many stories like this:

Thanks for the reply, will definitely be focusing our search on the northeast part of the state.

Definitely the rural area you're looking for.
The only negative is jobs. If you're in health care you'll be okay. But not many career jobs around. Maybe engineering since it's a heavy manufacturing economy around here.
Gatlinburg is cool but no way in hell I'd live there. Living in NE TN you're close enough to it for a day or weekend trip and that's all you need once a year imo.

If I were to move to Tennessee, it would be the Maryville/Townsend/Wears Valley area.
