Medications work by creating chemical reactions in the body. The entire history of pharmacology circulates around discovering new and unexpected reactions from preexisting compounds and studying their effects. The narrative against Ivermectin as a potential treatment to COVID is completely anti-science and violates the entire history of pharmaceutical research. All of a sudden they want you to believe that it's preposterous to discover that a pre existing drug can be found to have extremely beneficial effects in treating ailments or conditions that it was never meant or synthesized to treat, and yet one only needs to look at a drug that probably everyone has in their home currently to realize how absurd that conclusion is: ASPIRIN. It took 70+ years for scientists to discover that Aspirin, which was originally released as an antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drug, also possessed such powerful anti-platelet properties that it became a milestone in preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. So much so that it's now widely recommended by virtually every doctor as a preventative for heart-attacks. Now, would you go and laugh at your grandparent who takes Aspirin daily for this purpose because they'are literally taking an ANTI-EVER medication to treat a cardiovascular disease? The story of Aspirin isn't even over as they're now suggesting/discovering that it potentially has a chemopreventive effect against colorectal and other types of cancer.

Glad you ignored the rest of my most though. Either tells me you’re trolling or have let your VDS (vax derangement syndrome) ignore the facts
Over the past decade, the global scientific community have begun to recognize the unmatched value of an extraordinary drug, ivermectin, that originates from a single microbe unearthed from soil in Japan.Work on ivermectin has seen its discoverer, Satoshi Ōmura, of Tokyo's prestigious Kitasato Institute, receive the 2014 Gairdner Global Health Award and the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which he shared with a collaborating partner in the discovery and development of the drug, William Campbell of Merck & Co. Incorporated.Today, ivermectin is continuing to surprise and excite scientists, offering more and more promise to help improve global public health by treating a diverse range of diseases, with its unexpected potential as an antibacterial, antiviral and anti-cancer agent being particularly extraordinary.
Ivermectin’s mode of action against parasites in the human body remains to be clarified. There is a substantial disparity between maximum plasma concentrations after ivermectin administration and the concentrations needed to induce paralysis in microfilariae. Support has been accumulating for the evidenced-based hypothesis that the clearance of microfilariae is governed by immunoregulatory processes.
They aren't exactly sure how it treats parasites.Ivermectin’s primary target is glutamate-gated chloride channels, although it also active against other invertebrate neurotransmitter receptors, including GABA-, histamine- and pH-sensitive chloride channels. In addition, ivermectin exposure alters expression of genes involved in the reproduction mechanism of female worms, even at low concentrations.
Maybe it reduces inflammation?A 2011 study investigated the impact of ivermectin on allergic asthma symptoms in mice and found that ivermectin [at 2 mg kg−1] significantly curtailed recruitment of immune cells, production of cytokines in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluids and secretion of ovalbumin-specific IgE and IgG1 in the serum.Ivermectin also suppressed mucus hypersecretion by goblet cells, establishing that ivermectin can effectively curb inflammation, such that it may be useful in treating allergic asthma and other inflammatory airway diseases.
Maybe it protects the lungs?Because of its action on P2X4 receptors, ivermectin has potential with respect to preventing alcohol use disorders as well as for motor neurone disease. Indeed, in 2007, Belgian scientists applied for a patent, ‘Use of ivermectin and derivates thereof for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis’ [Publication No.: WO/2008/034202A3], to cover ‘the use of ivermectin and analogs, to prevent, retard and ameliorate a motor neuron disease such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and the associated motor neuron degeneration’.
Maybe it gives protection from "brain fog"?Antiviral [e.g. HIV, dengue, encephalitis]
Recent research has confounded the belief, held for most of the past 40 years, that ivermectin was devoid of any antiviral characteristics. Ivermectin has been found to potently inhibit replication of the yellow fever virus, with EC50 values in the sub-nanomolar range. It also inhibits replication in several other flaviviruses, including dengue, Japanese encephalitis and tick-borne encephalitis, probably by targeting non-structural 3 helicase activity. Ivermectin inhibits dengue viruses and interrupts virus replication, bestowing protection against infection with all distinct virus serotypes, and has unexplored potential as a dengue antiviral.
Ivermectin has also been demonstrated to be a potent broad-spectrum specific inhibitor of importin α/β-mediated nuclear transport and demonstrates antiviral activity against several RNA viruses by blocking the nuclear trafficking of viral proteins. It has been shown to have potent antiviral action against HIV-1 and dengue viruses, both of which are dependent on the importin protein superfamily for several key cellular processes. Ivermectin may be of import in disrupting HIV-1 integrase in HIV-1 as well as NS-5 (non-structural protein 5) polymerase in dengue viruses.

Price tells us nothing about the financial benefits for a company like Merck without understanding what costs they're incurring, a $1 ivermectin pill could be generating higher profit margins than a $70 COVID pill.

Review of the existing ivermectin studies shows serious methodological limitations, low evidence certainty, possible straight up fraud, and any antiviral benefits requiring doses so high that they'd be toxic to humans.

Ivermectin was introduced in 1981 and approved for human use in 1988. They lost patent protection in 1997.
This vs. the new drug which was developed 5 years ago that they recently purchased the rights to after their two attempts at creating a successful COVID vaccine failed:
June 9 (Reuters) - Merck & Co Inc (MRK.N) said on Wednesday the U.S. government has agreed to pay about $1.2 billion for 1.7 million courses of its experimental COVID-19 treatment, if it is proven to work in an ongoing large trial and authorized by U.S. regulators.
The oral antiviral treatment, molnupiravir, aims to stop COVID-19 from progressing and can be given early in the course of the disease, similar to Tamiflu to treat influenza.
The treatment course being tested in the trial is an oral dose given every 12 hours for five days.
Merck expects to have more than 10 million courses of the therapy available by the end of this year and said it was in discussions with other countries interested in advance purchase agreements for molnupiravir.

We are supposed to believe that Merck is condemning ivermectin and promoting molnupiravir though it is against their own financial best interest?
I think their shareholders would be pretty mad.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Let that sink in!

The procurement agreement, also known as a PO combined with Ts & Cs, is dependent on the drug getting through either EUA or FDA approval.
Merck also mentions they've taken on risk by sinking money into development of this with no guarantee any of it will come to fruition. Any new drug will cost more initially as the company front-loads R&D costs and costs associated with any new equipment/processes required to manufacture the drug.

Imagine ridiculing someone for taking something that has been used by humans safely for 35 years, after you've had an expiriment injected into your arm that won't finish 3 stage clinical testing until 2025. Just lol.....
