whats the deal with property taxes?

looks like every home will also cost you about 10k per year in property taxes, what the hell?

Then add in 8% sales tax for every purchase you make, plus paying a state income tax. Oh and a fuel tax.

Then all the other municipal and state taxes for a cell phone line, internet, car registration.

Just starting to figure out taxes? its not just your property.

You pay taxes on money you make, you pay taxes on money you spend, you pay taxes on money you invest, you pay taxes on money you make on profits, you pay taxes on money you gift and get gifted.. etc..

Took a big risk with your money on the stock market and made a profit? better pay uncle sam! get phukked buddy!

Wanna fence your yard? Get taxed son. Wanna improve you driveway? GET TAXED. PAY THAT LICENSE BOYO

Not looking forward to this. Everyone says to stop being a rentcel because you're throwing away $18k a year on rent. But once you factor in HOA and Property taxes, you're still throwing away like $15k+ a year lol.

Where the hell do you live that property taxes are 15k a year? and rent is only 18k?

You pay rent for the infrastructure you use to get to your house and live in it.

Think roads and plumbing and sewer and other chit. No big deal

It should be inverse to value with a child multiplier
The single person in the 500k home uses less services (police, tax payer funded programs) over the single mom in the 300k house with three kids
Each kid is in incredible burden on the public school system.
NJ is 21k per year per student
NY is 25k
CA is 20k
Boston is 23k
etc

The lower value homes are the drain.
That is why if you add apartments or "affordable" housing it is a net negative for the tax base in the community
1 apartment may be 5k in property tax but if they have three kids they cost the town 60k a year + whatever problems they cause

Live in GA, my property tax is like $2K a year. I still think it's horsechit that half of it goes to the schools. Parents should be directly billed for their kid's schooling letting it come directly out of their "income tax refund".

Come to Virginia. We pay taxes on both houses and cars.

Own a business? Yeah, you pay 4% taxes on your desk, chair, computer, and every other business asset every year too.

Meanwhile, Sharkeisha is in front of you at the checkout with EBT/WIC card in hand doing 2 different transactions so she can pay for her Boone's Farm and Miller High Life. No doubt she's going back to her government-funded apartment.

It depends on where you live. I pay $800 per year. My grandmother pays $300 per year for three acres of land in the country.



Move out of an over-priced area if you can't afford it.

You think renters aren't paying the landlord's property taxes? The landlord isn't just eating it. They pass it along to the consumer just like taxes on any other business.

Try 2.5% to 4.5% in the area where I’m at. It’s fuking insane imo but pay it. This is what gives everyone the quality of life the US is known for…a lot of it is wasted probably but that’s with any organization that’s bigger than a few people and you’re taking about whole cities, counties, states and country.

It’s a trade off well worth it - sometimes it don’t feel fair (like the one whose working hard and making more money by taking risks and investing or running a business, or working in any job is paying more taxes than the person who don’t work and is using benefits to pay for everything) but look at the living conditions in other countries and you’ll soon realize what you have. What we consider a necessity and a human right is almost “royal level stuff” in those other countries I speak of (steady supply of electricity, water, roads, security, somewhat clean air, emergency health care, etc etc)

I live 15 miles north of NYC. Property tax here for an average home ($700k) is around $20k+ a year. It's extortion.
