My job feels like a scam srs

Brb first day
Brb log into work-related email and its 40+ emails of people saying "Remove me from this list", most of them Indian names srs
Brb no other emails in that inbox
Brb can't log into anything official from company
Brb recruiter is ****** and asked me for social security last 4 digits last week during background check
Brb help desk asks to remote into my computer because I literally can't access anything yet
Brb they still haven't sent me work equipment for a remote job I was supposed to start today
Brb haven't done chit all day

Did I get ponzi'd?

Seems typical of a small company. I used to lead a team of Indians back in the day, we had some operating remotely from Hyderabad and some in the US under H1B visas.

It was funny because they would have a weekly banter discussions about how under represented Indian men are on porn and how much they wished it would be indians who were featured in the Blacked videos

Hmm. I’m leaning towards it not being a scam, however it possibly is a scam (unsure because of the remote aspect and weird email).

I used to work for a U.S. based mid-sized tech company that was run by 90% Indians. The CEO was apparently a somewhat famous businessman from India, but he lives in America, started his company here, hires pretty much exclusively Indians for upper management positions and so forth. There were scammy things about the company (think sketchy telesales) but it was legit.

Wtf? I would never do this under any circumstances. If you're going to legit work remotely, have a completely separate dedicated computer solely for that purpose or if in absolute desperation, create a separate profile on your main (but this is very suboptimal).

sounds like call center work.

I did those for years remote and enjoyed it. Could drink whiskey at 10am while working and the boss never knew.

Got paid the same as my sober coworkers!!

i used to work at opentable doing tech support, eharmony too.

opentable was just stateside stuff but my boss who was a serious computer whiz was indian, people would be upset when i transferred a call to him even though he lived in san fransisco, made big bucks and basically designed the system.

other side of the coin, at eharmony I supprted australia and they would always ask for an english speaker. yeah, like I dont speak english. I dont know if its like racist but it was certaibnly anti american.
