It finally happened. The desire to shoot a rifle or pistol with a suppressor finally caught up to you, but how do you get one?

First, don't live in the gray areas, because **** them:



Next, decide what kind of suppressor kit you want to make (you're notquiteready to buy yet). If you're only shooting a 22LR rimfire, a Quietbore22 kit (https://www.quietbore.com/product/22lr-form1-kit/) will be all you need. Stick with aluminum baffles, they're lightweight and easy to drill.

If you shoot a lot of handguns, you may want to choose a 9mm (https://www.quietbore.com/product/9mm-form1-kit/) or .45 cal kit (https://www.quietbore.com/product/45-cal-form1-kit/). Keep in mind that you'll also need a Booster Housing and piston in order to use these with most modern centerfire pistols (9mm:https://www.quietbore.com/product/9m...th-aac-piston/, 45:https://www.quietbore.com/product/45...-with-adapter/)


For rifle shooters, I'd recommend a different company, specifically JK Armament. Their 30 cal can has superior mounting options to the Quietbore option since it uses an industry standard 1.375"x24 thread for the mount. (https://jkarmament.com/products/jk-1...patent-pending)



Why would you choose to make instead of buy a suppressor? While you do have the option to buy one, this will take you about 30 seconds to make your purchase, and currently about 220-300 days to get your tax stamp back (more on this later). You cannot legally make or take possession of your suppressor until you have an approved $200 tax stamp. While buying your suppressor will require a 7-10 month wait for approval currently, eFiling an application to MAKE a suppressor is resulting in approval in as little as 30 days.

So, how do you file the paperwork, and how do you make a suppressor without a bunch of crazy tools?


To make a suppressor, the fastest way to file is as a trust. If you have anyone who you might want to let use your suppressor (parents, siblings, spouse, adult children) without your being present, you should have an NFA Trust created, then file as a trust. You can file as an individual, but this appears to take longer and grants less flexibility down the road.

Now that you have a trust, you'll need a passport photo and 2 sets of fingerprints on this form (https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/fo...d-258/download). While you can do that yourself, the easiest way to get them is to visit a Gun Store that has a Silencershop Kiosk. (https://www.silencershop.com/storelo...p=store&flag=2) Download the Silencer Shop App, walk into the store, and the kiosk will take your fingerprints. You can then order a preprinted fingerprint card here:https://www.silencershop.com/service...int-cards.html

So now you've got a gun trust, fingerprints, and a passport photo, what do you do? E File your Form 1, here's a video to help.



Once you submit your form 1, you'll get a cover letter to submit your fingerprints within 10 business days. I'd recommend having the fingerprint cards before doing your Form 1.

If you bought a Quietbore, at this point, send them your form 1, and they'll engrave it for you and send the kit. For JK, take it to an engraver and get your trust name, model, caliber, serial, and place of manufacture (city/state) engraved on the can. Once your stamp is approved, you can then drill out your baffles. Both of these companies offer jigs for their cans that allow you to put the baffle into the jig, in a vice, and then drill with a cordless drill.

If im in a position where im worried about getting caught using a suppressor odds are it would be done of the lesser felonies I'd be facing I'd think.

Honestly I'd be more worried about being on the list of Wish.com oil filter purchasers. This annoying youtuber makes diesel truck videos and got a visit from homeland security for ordering oil filters that he was actually using as oil filters:

I'd avoid the wish.com oil filters for the reasons above. Also, for the "I don't want my name on a list" crew, your name is on a list. Unless every single firearm you've ever purchased has been a private party purchase, and you've never bought anything gun related with a credit card, your name is on a list.

Might as well enjoy owning a suppressor.
