Calling all WHISKY DRINKERS!!! ((RECCOMMENDATIONS NEEDED))
Dad's B'day coming up, and he likes his whisky. Wanted to get him something a bit more pricey this year and was looking at Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Is it worth the £130 price tag?

It really depends on what kind of scotch he likes. Does he like blends, or single malts, and from which regions?
What does he drink now? More than a bottle he might like you taking him to a scotch tasting. Something to do together and unless he is a pro already it’s pretty awesome getting educated while you knock a few back.

Blue is 100% not worth it. For that money I'd buy black and a couple of single malts instead.

I usually prefer Wild Turkey, but don't have any on hand so Southern Comfort is just fine.

Just reading it’s reviews.
Chivas is unpeated with what sounds like some sherry finish in there (orange, marzipan blah blah blah). I think a Dalmore would do him well. Either the 18 or king Alexander III.
It is also likely blended with some rye I think Or finished in rye casks (notes of spice and cloves etc). So maybe a nice bourbon would be up his alley too?

For blended, there is a compass box I’ve really wanted to try. I’ll look it up and see if it fits what he may like.

As far as whisky/scotch goes, Glenlivet 18 yo is a good pour. I didn't care for the Enigma, the after taste was less than desired for. A good blend, one of my favorites is Compass Box Hedonism and you can't go wrong with Scapa.

Chivas is a Scotch, as is Blue Label. Blue Label is good whisky but there are better values out there.
Chivas is not particularly smokey/peaty so I'd stay away from anything from Islay.
Any good Speyside whisky would do great, I'm partial to Glenfiddich. Or for something from the highlands, try Glenmorangie - I really like their LaSanta personally but that's a solid distillery at every price point in the range.

Maybe do something like a sampler. My buddy gave me a Heaven Hill sampler last year for Christmas. It was five 100ml bottles, we sat around tasting them and had a couple of stogies. It was nice.
I'm sure you can find a fancier one for less than the cost of Blue. Your dad might even end up finding a new favorite.

I like Glenfiddich 12 for good daily drinker
I like Oban (any year) for a more special bottle
You can’t go wrong with a McCallan either

Not a huge fan of hard alcohol.

One of the few I think doesn't taste like soap.
