Bethesda Studios does it again! ... Another classic hit with Deathloop
I mean Arkane Studios since people tend to confuse the two lel.... Pretty incredible. The guys who did Prey/Dishonored and one of the best devs currently in the industry. Said it before, Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda meant that they acquired Arkane studios, the actual gem in that whole deal.

And it's getting rave reviews from other sites.

88 metacritic, 88 opencritic . Dang. Was expecting lowish 80's for this one since I thought the rogue elements would turn people off. Then again I thought Psychonauts 2 would be like an 80 tops.
Looking forward to play once it hits game pass after the timed exclusivity deal is up.

Sounds very unique. Reviewer said think of it more as a MetroidVania than a Roguelike. That sells me.
Love the artstyle too. How it uses color to draw your attention to certain paths. And I like the 60's vibe.

I didn't realize this game had any ray tracing. Looking it up, it seems as though there are three modes for ps5. I won't play the raytracing 30fps when I play next year, but at least it will have VRR on xbox to help things out. I'll play performance mode unless Visual Quality mode holds 60 better on xbox.
Performance
Dynamic 4K scaling, performance prioritized, no raytracing, steady 60 FPS.
Visual Quality
Dynamic 4K scaling, graphic fidelity prioritized, no raytracing, 60fps with drops.
Raytracing
Dynamic 4K scaling, high graphic fidelity, raytracing enabled, 30 FPS.

Got a PS5 and a gaming PC. Looks like I might be getting it for the PC based on the below. If I get it, that is. $60 for a 20 hours game doesn't exactly sound worth it to me (review says they beat it within 20-25 hours).
Spoiler!
Lack of crossplay sucks, but I'm very surprised it'll still come equipped with Dual Sense + Haptic Feedback on the PS5 Controller when plugged into a PC. Didn't know that was even possible, srs.
Spoiler!
As for the PC version - which sadly has no crossplay functionality with the console one - the recent info shared by the developer was rather thin on the actual supported features. However, we're happy to confirm that it supports the main DualSense features, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which provide a greater level of immersion in Deathloop. There is one thing missing on PC, though, and that's the controller's speaker which only works on PS5. It may not seem like a huge deal, but hearing Julianna's voice taunting Colt through the DualSense speaker felt much more radio-like.
Deathloop on PC also supports HDR displays - the first Arkane game to do so - and features ray-traced options for shadows and ******t occlusion - other options for AO include FidelityFX CACAO and NVIDIA HBAO+. As you would expect, activating ray tracing greatly increases the fidelity of both effects.
Perhaps the most surprising feature is the inclusion of NVIDIA Reflex. Wccftech readers should already know this technology is mostly used in online games, particularly those of a very competitive nature, such as Valorant, Overwatch, Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Fortnite, and Rainbow Six: Siege. Deathloop isn't really an online-focused game, even though it features an optional PvP multiplayer where players may have their session invaded by a human-controlled version of Julianna.
Still, NVIDIA Reflex lowers the overall system latency, which is really a boon in any game that requires fairly precise controls, regardless of whether it's. It was also implemented in Ghostrunner, the cyberpunk action platformer game that features no form of direct multiplayer - though it is highly geared towards speedrunning. We can only hope more games will add it to provide more responsive controls.
Additionally, the presence of NVIDIA Reflex suggests that DLSS could be added later on, too, as is often the case with these two technologies. Despite Deathloop's support of AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution, this isn't an AMD-sponsored game on PC.

Just played the first two levels, so initial impressions.
Playing on ps5
-Graphics are real nice, very clean ... The youtube videos dont do it justice, I really didnt think much of the graphics/presentation while watching the trailers, but seeing it in person is different. Not a stark difference, and it's no ratchet and clank, but it's very nice.
- Arkane's impeccable level design and approach to situations is at full show here, from the very first level there seems to be so many ways to get into different areas and all sorts of little puzzles littered all the over the place for you to go poke into and get different info/items. very cool, cant wait to poke around once I get more powers.
- I'm still in a "tutorial" two levels in, but they do tell you that you're free to poke around or exit the level, but while telling you there's plenty of time to explore later on. Planning on doing the main path first before I go poking around in areas.
- Story is interesting so far, and i'm definitely digging the characters of Colt and Juliana, their interactions are great ... and it's a pretty slow drip atm, but I'm sure the more you play, the more things get explained.
- Enemy AI is kinda braindead, but I think in a game like this, it's "ok" because the whole point of immersive sims is for you to "break"/manipulate the systems, but you're kinda squishy atm, so the enemy can kill you - I died twice in the second level lel
- The use of Dual sense is done extremely well, love the effects and the feels of the triggers when shooting ... Thank fuk, dev's are getting better at this and actually using it well ... Love it!
- I'm actually playing on performance mode rn - and funnily ehough, it's the default setting so I'm guessing Arkane wanted it this way until they can improve the performance ... I didnt try the other modes, but I reckon I'm gonna stay on performance because this seems like the kind of game where 60 fps or at least a stable framerate is vital to it .... I'm usually fine with 30 fps if I can get the best graphics possible, but performance mode looks great, so no complaints.\
- the roguelite element is quite forgiving, you get a trinket that pretty gives you 2 lives and if you die on the third, then you restart the loop again, so it's not all that brutal.,
However, my absolute biggest gripe with the game right now is the absolute lack of saving. The game uses an autosave feature, so its not like Returnal where you lose progress if you stop ... The autosave seems fine for the most part, but I absolutely hate autosaves in games and especially in a immersive sim where the whole point is for you to save scum and experiment with stuff is severely severely disappointing. Yes you can argue that this game is also a "roguelite" but give people options ffs ... If I wanna quick save anywhere, experiment and then reload the save when things go to chit should be an option .... Even Dishonored had a quick save on consoles. I hope more people cause a ruckus online so that Arkane adds a save feature in-game rather than using an autosave. Let me save scum goddamit.

Looks like an awesome game to be honest. I'll definitely play it when it comes to GamePass in a year, but also props to Xbox for keeping the deal in place when they could of found a way to nix the deal. Moving forward though, Arkane will be making Xbox Exclusives, and their games are always different but still pretty solid. Will definitely be a developer to watch for Xbox.
