States that ended COVID unemployment benefits see no boost in job growth
States that ended federal unemployment benefits earlier this summer saw August job growth at less than half the rate of states that retained the benefits, according to new data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Why it matters:Leaders in the largely Republican-led states had insisted that the benefits were discouraging people from work, and ended the assistance program early ahead of its planned expiration on Sept. 6.
The benefits, which came in the form of weekly $300 payments, had been in place since spring last year to help families through the pandemic.
A growing group of states began ending the benefits in June in what they called an effort to incentivize people to return to the workforce.
What they're saying: "Economists analyzing the unemployment issue have seen little evidence yet that cutting off the benefits has provided a clear boost to local labor markets, in part because of difficulties separating the influence of the payments from larger shifts in the labor force, or of the potentially offsetting damage done by the pandemic," Reuters writes.
Worth noting: When jobs are hard to fill, a broader worker awakening over the past year is part of the reason, Axios' Hope King writes.
Workers across sectors are realizing they are now more empowered than ever.

Oh Patricia, can't wait to see your reaction when the mortgage/eviction Moratorium ends, and millions face eviction.
Who will you blame?
And how long should the unemployment benefits last?

First off, let’s use the Reuters article it’s cliff citing.
https://www.reuters.com/business/ami...source=twitter
Now op- I’m gonna give you just a bit of time to read this and find the major flaw in want your are trying to insinuate here….
Gonna give you a chance to not look like a potato.
It’s pretty simple
And the entire implied premise from you op, and article, is false.

At least they aren't spending 600/wk for people to be bums. Yeah so they aren't out spending 600 foolishly which doesn't help the economy but you have to understand that you can't do that. If you don't understand that then why aren't you advocating for 600/wk for everyone, even if you are employed?

Roughly the same quality of life. Live in the same area of town. One requires you to cuck on everything you hold sacred while committing 40% of your entire time on earth to some CEO who is doing lines off hookers asses on his yacht.
It’s over for CEOcells and GOVcells. I will not earn a taxable wage likely ever again after these last two years And there are many like me.

Another paragraph from the article
Goldman Sachs analysts, looking at individual level data, have found that the end of the payments did increase the probability of someone moving from unemployment to a job, and expect the national expiration of the extra unemployment insurance to lead to the addition of an extra 1.3 million jobs by the end of the year.
Now that you have just August figure it out…Go back and get the cumulative 3 month since the states the ended unemployment, and maybe even 1 month prior for the anticipation side.
Then make sure your using apples to apples seasonal adjusted and regular by 2 comparisons.
Gotta be month to month also - not yoy to be a legit comparison for this parameter.
Also for the entire cumulative total - use the same month by month archived bls data- not the the independent private payroll data from obscure payroll processor the msnbc used on one of their recent videos segments.

The reality is covid kicked Florida and Texas' asses, while states that had mask mandates and continued the benefits doubled their job growth.

What’s even funnier about axioz’s attempted way to present the article their citing , from a study of sub cited
Is the complete disregard to mention the anticipations employment that happens from the states where the population those are benefits are about to end, as we saw in the gop ones may and June
Just lol at the intellectual dishonesty I’m not comparing the cumulative totals.

First off- if you decide to compline the archived data I mentioned- make sure and use by states that ended it with gop governors - that isn’t your typical red/blue state -comparison- as some very blue states have gop governors , and some traditional red states have dnc governors that didn’t.
State by state unemployment ended beginning in June for many, and July for some.
There was a few indications of employment anticipation knowing this was happening in May in the states by comparison to ones that didn’t.
Then in June and July the comparison isn’t even close….
You go back to when unemployment ended -you compile all the data for each month - and then you compare to the ones that didn’t end unemployment for the same three months compiled.
By August many have plateaued, and some of the DNC ones began the anticipation of it ending hires.
when you look at the combined numbers and you see how much more jobs added happened in the GOP governor states- you can understand why the article ended up with that paragraph from the study.
Again from the article …..
Goldman Sachs analysts, looking at individual level data, have found that the end of the payments did increase the probability of someone moving from unemployment to a job, and expect the national expiration of the extra unemployment insurance to lead to the addition of an extra 1.3 million jobs by the end of the year.
Now as far as your next post if you want to start individualizing states that’s another conversationAnd if you start to want to look at seasonally exhausted and tourism trends in the same states by comparison to normal seasonal trends in the same tourism state by moth that’s also another discussion.
And if you want to individual a state that uses out of state employment..
Then look at the rate instead of the balance as well as consideration of entering and exiting the workforce….
That convo won’t end well for you.
