The handouts are ending, the evictions are around the corner, what a time to be alive.

First off- if you decide to compline the archived data I mentioned- make sure and use by states that ended it with gop governors - that isn’t your typical red/blue state -comparison- as some very blue states have gop governors , and some traditional red states have dnc governors that didn’t.
State by state unemployment ended beginning in June for many, and July for some.
There was a few indications of employment anticipation knowing this was happening in May in the states by comparison to ones that didn’t.
Then in June and July the comparison isn’t even close….
You go back to when unemployment ended -you compile all the data for each month - and then you compare to the ones that didn’t end unemployment for the same three months compiled.
By August many have plateaued, and some of the DNC ones began the anticipation of it ending hires.
when you look at the combined numbers and you see how much more jobs added happened in the GOP governor states- you can understand why the article ended up with that paragraph from the study.
Again from the article …..
Now as far as your next post if you want to start individualizing states that’s another conversation
And if you start to want to look at seasonally exhausted and tourism trends in the same states by comparison to normal seasonal trends in the same tourism state by moth that’s also another discussion.
And if you want to individual a state that uses out of state employment..
Then look at the rate instead of the balance as well as consideration of entering and exiting the workforce….
That convo won’t end well for you.

I think Reuters (and Axios) knew what they were reporting when they wrote their articles, which clearly show the states that ended their unemployment benefits saw half the job growth as those states that didn't.

Just to recap..
Florida, for example, had it's unemployment rise every month this year. Even after ending the extra benefits.
New York, on the other hand, saw no change in unemployment.. while keeping the benefits AND saw twice as much job growth.

Now I could just go back to when it was announced extended unemployment would end, add the total months of May, June, July , and August….
And show you where more jobs were added in the GOP states, as even the study the article is discussing noted…
.
Instead of looking at just the month of August like you’re doing….
But now you were talking about the year? And job growth comparison ?
Well if you want to look at it from a year stand point, you use a 12 month moving average…
Ranked…..

Actually, New York's unemployment went down... while Florida's went up since the start of the year. Weird.
https://www.ncsl.org/research/labor-...nt-update.aspx
Either way, states that ended the benefits did not see the job growth as states that kept them.

They ended the unemployment benefits 1 or 2 months before they expired, right? Oh wowonly16-17 months instead of 18. Such a difference. Not sure what people are doing to stay afloat. Where I filled up my tank last week I noticed the starting wage for the clerks is $15/hr. People waiting things out does seem to be working in their favor. Amazon and Target are paying college tuition for full-time workers. Good. We've witnessed the greatest transfer of wealth from the middle and working classes to the already rich, so if the lower end wages rise faster than the printer going BRRRRRR creating high inflation, cool.
Yeah Buddyyy! Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

Even without the benefits ending, it only makes sense that the states with the highest unemployment would have the greatest potential for job growth, or better put, people re-entering the work force and occupying jobs that were eliminated during the pandemic.
This is a case Axios misrepresenting the statistics and not providing proper context.

NYS has the 4th largest unemployment rating in the country.
Florida is actually bouncing back much better than NY.

OP you can use some liberal slanted article with cherry picked stats all you want.
What I can tell you is this...I go to Jimmy Johns for lunch because its a block down the street pretty regularly. Pretty much the entire unemployment benefits have been in place for covid, they have always been short staffed with help wanted signs.
Unemployment benefits ended and within 1 week there were finally more than 1-2 people working a shift consistently.
I went to DMV twice during the period where benefits were in place, there were 3 employees both times. I went just last week, and there were 8 people working.
A few other restaurants that had reduced hours because of staffing issues have returned to normal recently. Sure it's just anecdotal evidence, but sometimes the obvious is obvious and you dont need an elaborate study to tell you what common sense already explains.
If i can have free money to get by, then i too would not work, and if i dont have free money then i guess i have to work to get by. It's pretty simple.
