Is it really as simple as tickers not moving as much, and only moving 5-10% for earnings? So the only way to make money is to know technical analysis really, really well and day trade, or just buy and hold over the long term? I'd like to make $250-500 a day with a ~$50k account but I don't know if that's crazy talk if we go back to a market similar to what it was before 2019. Supposedly 8% a year is phenomenal so that would mean at best I could turn that $50k into ~$54k on average.
I've personally never met a successful day trader. At some point in time a bear market usually ends their career. But that's just what I've read in books that preach diversification and indexes.
You could read about the hedge fund with a team of investors that bet against Buffet over like a 10yr timeframe where he was invested in an index. Yeah I suppose this was pre-covid market, but like we've both said, we're in unprecedented times. When the bear market comes, you'd likely make more money working at BK than trading stocks, that's how confident I'd personally be about it. But don't let anyone stop you if that's what you want to try.
You could also look up a few tickers and go way back to points of time in a bear market and see how little some moved. When you go a whole year holding a stock that should of went up, but has little to no movement...well, it slowly kills me inside. I'd regularly go a quarter or two before checking my accounts when I first started because I found it depressing and thought I'd never be able to retire. Initially I hoped for just a 7% return and then eventually I was just hoping things would turn green by the end of the year.

Edit- ^ I've successfully day traded/swing traded, but it burned me the fuk out so I'm mostly long on all my positions now
Slowly averaging into more MSFT today just bought more @ 194
DASH selling alcohol, great move imo but I wouldn't buy the stock still
COIN looking like it may be close to a bottom, it has huge upward potential

than you see china markets go to shiit.

18 months of every dip being bought.
they are starting to trap those dip buyers now
sorted by this weeks expiry.

Sitting on 100% Cash in my American Money, still holding all my CDN Positions however
MSFT looks pretty Juicy but going to to sit by until a reversal

SPY $431.40 would be 5 percent correction if it touches from ath few weeks ago.
and it broke that level now.
$420 would be gap fill down

AMD is curious at the $100 level it’s at now because it can be strong support, if that breaks then $85 is next.
