Should African-Americans get slavery reparations?

I think they should. Imagine doing work/labor, but not getting paid for it.

Descendants of slaves should get financial compensation.

We'll never be able to move forward until we right this wrong IMO.

They should’ve in the 1800s and it’s fuked up they didn’t, but it would be fking insanely ridiculous to issue any sort of reparations today considering the last American slave died back in the 1950s. No modern Whites should be blamed for slavery either. These proposals usually come from militant Marxists who want to divide and conquer.

What I would be in favor of is something similar to Trump’s Platinum Plan, which never came into fruition because of Biden’s election, but would have directed certain resources to boost economic development, entrepreneurship, work programs and other helpful solutions in Black communities nationwide. This plan, piggybacking off of the record low unemployment and earning power under Trump, may have finally restored dignity to the poorest Black Americans who have been left behind by LBJ and the KKK Democrats 70 year reign of destruction.

The other thing is, who the fuk would pay? All White Americans? My family didn’t even come to this country until the middle 20th century. Most of my ancestors were dirt poor Sicilian peasants who came over, worked hard and rose above the odds to contribute to this country.

Even if reparations were a viable option, there is no “fair” way to execute such a plan. We should instead try to elevate American citizens as one and reject the notion that anyone is incapable of achieving what another group can solely based on their race/ethnicity.

On a serious note why should I accept money from people that are alive today that had nothing to do with what happened to my ancestors? I wasn't alive back then.

Are there families who have benefited from what happened a long time ago? Yes, but it would not be right for me to hold all white people accountable for what happened 150+ years ago.

Unfortunately reparations for slavery should've happened a very long time ago. Every other group got it except blacks.

I saw a chart that showed the avg black person receives more than 700K over their lifetime in the form welfare/govt benefits etc.

Avg white person pays over 400K more than they receive.

Again, those are averages so your mileage may vary.

Yes, except it is difficult logistically. I think underadvantaged people deserve a leg up to fight bias feedback making them worse off.
