its a good point he makes that the 3 reboot AC games were all post-Witcher 3 in nature and inspiration but this one set in Beowulf era England is the closest so far.

it seems like they went with the guy in Odyssey to be similar but different, but this time with Valhalla its almost a straight up clone in demeanor and facial structure of Geralt.

The thing I didn't really realize going in is that the game is actually all about English history; and is probably the best, most lush recreation of old Anglo Saxon England ever, -and even tho there was another AC set in England (in a less epic more modern era of it), this one is the real Medieval England simulator.

Watching all types of related history about it and reading through Beowulf again I had some really fun times so far. Its less about Scandanavians but rather about Old England and all its greens and lush colors

Its more like visiting Frodo in the real life shire than it is about Norse stuff.

Also the shallow weapon fest is gone which was the worst part of Odyssey. So RPG elements are more simple in a good way (post Breath of the Wild).

Overall its actually pretty addicting in a completionism black flag way where you want to just go around to every island collecting 100% of the stuff on the map and just taking in the sights.

The world design is immaculate as usual and the rest is decently good. Smoother control and behavior scheme than ever. The in game game Orlog is to Hearthstone what Gwent was to hearthstone. A simple yet well crafted re-imagining of it

Theres lots of pretty good stuff going on. I thought I would check it out and bail on it but it got me hooked more than even Odyssey in some ways maybe (which I never finished since it was a bloated mess)

I almost skipped it after Odyssey. Glad I picked it up though, as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've only played #1 and halfway through #2. The new ones are better? Thought the first two were really repetitive. Got tired of climbing so much chit and having to go stealth all the time.

I haven't played an ac game since shadow of mordor series came out and ruined ac. It was just a better game in like every single aspect and the combat was so much more fun.

Odyssey and Origins were both easily better.

I enjoyed aspects of both games. The combat system in SoM is pretty awesome. There is planning and strategy involved and ways to manipulate the ranks.

AC has good story and the missions are very well integrated in to the grand scheme of it.

Both are worthy of my money.

I can relate to that because Odyssey was very magical in its setting but the game itself un-aluring from an RPG perspective. In RPGs I like to get really strong from grinding and feel strong against enemies in the game but the way Orgins and Odyssey scaled up you always felt like it was arbitrary and meaningless because everything was too dependent on enemy scaling so you never really felt strong, just at the right scale or below or slightly ahead if the curve.

Now in Valhalla they did away with the Diablo style of loot and have a more straightforward Survival genre style of loot that stays with you a long time and is upgraded.

That in itself makes it a lot more playable and is a relief from the anxiety of Bloatdessy.Yeah theres a lot to manually conquer but its also more reasonable since the lore is about conquering the land. Its not quite as big as odyssey though. in that one it felt hard to even see everything there was to see let alone conquer it. This map is more manageable and the zones are do-able.cate to explain why? Did you play all of Valhalla?

Had to take a break away from the game due to playing too much and getting burned out srs. The story was just getting good as I stopped but will finish later

After they fixed the game breaking bug that 100% stopped me from progressing in the story, yes I finally was able to finish it.

Best characters, music, atmosphere, story and addictive gameplay, it had it all. Wish I could disconnect the neurons from those memories just so I could experience BF once again

Yeah I loved Odyssey for the setting as well especially as a history simulator.

Where else in the world can you see such a passionate and dedicated recreation of such a rendering? As a game it’s cool but as a historian, it’s salivating.

Reimaginings that only could be imagined 30 years ago now come to life, faithfully recreated.

As a cultural monument it stands above and beyond a mere game and goes into societal relevancy as a living recreation of a lost world.

It’s a marvel of modern times that they have a game as an excuse to spend such large amounts of investment and production to be able to make such a thing.

But yeah, just as important as my Thracian heritage is, so is Old England.

If you play a bit longer you get to England and follow them as they literally conquer the map, meeting the people who would intermingle to invent the history of the language that conquered the earth.

It’s literally more of a middle earth simulator and the history of England is the history of Vikings as English people all have Scandinavian DNA and are essentially the same people. The nuance of all that is on offer here as well, and as gay as Ubisoft might be, they always do their history homework and intertwine immense amount of historical gems amongst the fantastical elements.

It really was that good!

5/10. Did not finish. Story was boring imo. Main character was generic. Combat was very button mash-y.

Unless you’re just REALLY into Viking chit, there’s no way you can find this game to be better than Black Flag, Odyssey, or Origins.

It really just wasn’t that good of an AC title.
Story - mediocre.
Combat - not nearly as good as the three mentioned above.

And I guess I played it too early one month or so after release because it was filled with so many bugs it made Cyberpunk seem like a flawless release.
